Japhet Tanganga and Joe Rodon really caught the eye as Tottenham returned to winning ways with a 2-0 victory against Aston Villa

I think Rodon has done extremely well every time he's been called upon.

He's had to deal with different partners, back 3 and back 4, played RCB now LCB - not to mention being very sporadically selected. He hasn't even been on the bench for weeks and is then thrown in last night.

I said a couple of months back that I'd pick him every week and use the rest of this season as his 'grounding'. Ok he'll make the odd mistake but the more senior players that were/are being selected ahead of him are making as many, if not more.

He also comes across as an organiser which we've been hugely lacking.

I'll say it again. I like this lad Rodon. 'proper' old fashioned defender. He really does appear to enjoy the battle of defending, and is prepared to put his body on the line to nullify attacks.

Same with Tanganga, for another youngster, he hasn't looked intimidated by opponents. Shows good strength.

If we go with Rodon as first choice LCB for the rest of the season. Dier will demand to be sold.
Yet if we were to add an experienced international defender to the squad, like mourinho wants, with loads of premiership and CL experience including a final, we'd be saying what a great addition!

It is a shame Rodon missed out on the europa as he could have built his case to get more prem games. Are we really prepared to say he is our first choice on the back of a win and clean sheet against a poor villa side?

The chances are he will make more mistakes than Dier and offer less leadership in the short term. The only difference is he is learning his trade at this level and we'll be more tolerant of his lapses.

It's possible that Dier has made his own bed (pure opinion).

For me Rodon has a much higher ceiling than Dier and I don't see much difference between the two on current ability.

Dier has been gash, and apart from looking hard and finger pointing I'm not sure he's added too much leadership.

Mourinho was a huge fan of Dier when he walked through the door, absolutely huge. It's well documented he tried to sign him at United.

If he feels Rodon is a better choice for the rest of the season, it won't be a kneejerk reaction. Dier has been the constant in a very shaky defence, maybe Mourinho has decided he can't keep giving this experienced international defender chance after chance after chance with no improvement.

Rodon and Tanganga did well and deserve a run in the team. Having said that, Villa were pretty bad apart from the first 30 minutes when we were finding our feet at the back. If we could get decent money for Dier and Doherty I'd be all over that and use it towards a Toby replacement. We need an experienced 'warhorse' type in there to give the orders.

Works for me.

He's not good enough and never will be. Money will be tight in the Summer and I think he is the CB we will both miss the least and also possibly raise the most money due to the fact he's an England international.

I'd be fine with a Four of Toby, Joe, Sanchez and a much needed quality CB plus cover from Tanganga.

If you ever feel a tinge of sympathy for "Iron Eric" take a good long long at the stills of him defending the Everton & Newcastle goals.
He is about as hard as what I just flushed.

Go Japh & Joe even if they make the odd mistake the raw material is definitely there.
