The fact that Jose is so quick to praise Skipp and Tanganga but is markedly not so for Parrott suggests he may think he has an ego problem
Or that he's just not ready to play top flight senior football. I know he's done well at lower age groups but it's a big step both physically and mentally. Jose is playing some of our academy produced players so it's clear he'll give them a go if he thinks it's right.

Sometimes playing these kids too much too early can do more harm than good.

Here's the quote:

The penalty is nothing. He is a penalty taker in the under-23s, he scores every one in the unders. ‘He was so confident, he wanted to take one, he wanted to take the responsibility, it’s an experience in his career. ‘The problem is not his experience. The problem is the 30 minutes. ‘Now people can see that he has to work a lot so don’t think that Parrott is the second Harry Kane because he’s just a young kid that needs to work. ‘Let’s forget the penalty because we all miss the penalties, it was not Troy
I'm not annoyed at Parrott, he's young and it was a big game, but he absolutely couldn't have telegraphed his pen any more than he did. It was so obvious it was going to the right.

That's pretty much my point. He didn't feel the need to shower him with false platitudes because it was evidence he isn't ready. And that's no surprise.

He looked lost yesterday. He needs time and patience and as you say he’s happy trying Tanganga and skipp so if and when he feels he’s ready he’ll give him a chance. What doesn’t help the issue is we are crying out for a striker so fans (and potentially rightly so) feel something is better than nothing. Last night proved to me José is right to be cautious about playing Parrott despite our appetite for him to be the next Kane

Or he just feels the praise isn’t deserved based on effort or performance?

Sure. But it is noticeable that he has gone out of his way to big up almost every player in every match even despite some ropey displays. He has broke from his own convention here, suggests he was making a point.

Needs to go out on loan to lower leagues in the summer imo.

If Mourinho is so sure Parrott isn't ready, why the fuck did he let him take a penalty? If he'd have scored it I'm sure he'd be saying something different about him today.

I don't think anyone including Jose thinks having a penalty saved is indicative of anything.

It's the dopey fans literally demanding endlessly a n unproven kid just gets promoted into leading our attack that is ridiculous.

I thought JM actually spoke sense about the lad, and defended him, over the penalty. Maybe young Troy needed to learn a lesson? Or to take his chance. He certainly learned a lot.

Media is talking about him, as usual. Not a fairly poor performance.

Even Kane had to go and serve his time in the lower leagues...

off topic,

Did we have 4 subs on the pitch last night?

has there been a rule change?

Winks <-> Ndombele
Moura <- >Lamela
Bergwijn <-> Fernandes
All <-> Parrot

Maybe Jose needs to look at how shit the team was before having a go at a young player.

But that's a debate for another thread.....

I like Paul - he's never one for hyperbole but I'm kind of surprised that he's getting caught up in that kind of nonsense. It's obvious that it's been a shite season that's never really got going.
