I don’t think anyone is surprised there are issues with such a complex build, even expected.

And I think we’d all prefer to turn to up to an almost finished stadium for the first time, not a patched up “ready” state where the exterior isn’t even finished.

The problem I have is Levy didn’t even apologise to the fans for the delay and that speaks volumes! Instead he asked us for patience and support. Maybe he’d get more of both if he made us feel like we were anything more than a pound sign, rather than banging on about the NFL which none of us give a flying fuck about at the moment.

Nail on the head, sir.

So instead of Liverpool for our first game we could be hosting the current champions instead.
What a fitting way to introduce everyone to our grand new stadium.(y)
Especially when/if we beat them:playful:

I know this is an absolute shot in the dark possibility but not every single body that works on the stadium is a Spurs fan. earlier there was evidence of a spam fan painting the irons sign somewhere and no longer works on site. just a possibility another spam, chav, gooner, scouser could of made an error in installation knowing how critical and knowing it would end up embarrassing a club they hate. I know it's doubtful, but still possible

Yeah, I reckon some gooner builder has shoved a potato in the sprinkler system somewhere. "Take that spuds", he'll have said to himself, the ****!

I guess this has been known for a while - I was sticking away from buying flights back and tickets until 2019 as I was worried on delays. Interesting points that people make that we may have to play whole season at Wembley to keep it fair for clubs playing us at a ground we are used to vs new ground. Sounds valid room for complaint from clubs so I hope we have had that discussion before suggesting new dates. Think I will wait a bit to organise the trip!

The club must have known about this for a while and I have funny feeling the naming rights / transfer window issues are all related to this delay. Sponsors don't want to be associated with late projects so we may be holding announcements until they can be secure on opening. Lack of sponsor + reduced projected revenue from matchday income, potential compensation/refunds for season tickets could have caused Levy to change transfer strategy. Additionally may not have been able to project the club fully to potential signings, or would have had to tell them about delays risking leaks.

Gutted as the Fulham and Liverpool games were potentially the only games i can attend this season as i am away from home until late May. But it is what it is, I will still go up to the liverpool game though if i can get a ticket.

Looks like the club were really on a tight deadline and anything like this would cause it to be delayed. Surprised we got this far without any notable delays. Be interesting if we learn more if the cause is true, surprised that its only been tested this one time which pretty much meant the stadium was going to be delayed if something didn't work. Unless the individual components worked but as a whole the system wasn't functioning correctly.

Its gutting that we are not going back to the Lane as soon as expected but we need to keep a perspective on the long term goal of moving into a new state of the art stadium that will be safe for everyone.

I fully sympathise with those who don't want to go back to Wembley but its only a few more games so I think we should all get behind the team as best we can.

It's frustrating that we don't know all of the details but as has been said previously I think the club's hand was forced by the media leak before all ticketing arrangements were finalised. There could be an issue if the Man City game does not get played at the new ground as this would mean two category A games potentially being played at Wembley and the clubs policy of giving us 1/19 credit would not work.

I also think the clubs should give a refund rather than a credit if there are people who do not wish to attend Wembley although I will be going to support the team wherever we are playing.

They need to significantly reduce the prices for the games at Wembley otherwise that stadium will be empty.

The silence from the club is astonishing, that statement yesterday was absolute crap.

People are actually buying the safety system issue and this was all a sudden thing? Seriously? That’s clearly a bullshit excuse for the club failing to be up front with the fans. We’ve gotten smoke out from people who have worked on the site for months that the stadium will not be ready in the clubs time frame and it was looking like November. Not only that, but all anyone has to do is take a look at the pictures that are continuously popping up. There’s a safety issue. But its got nothing to do with a system and more to do with the fact its clearly a building site and the club doesnt want anyone falling through the large glassless area of the facade or touching anything else on match days.
If fans fall through the glassless areas they shouldn't have climbed up to reach those glassless areas.
I'm going with the safety system issue, if you are right then without doubt we will soon hear about it and get the truth.

Just passing this on. From someone I trust no reason to lie. His mates a plumber and had contract extended start of August for 6 months. There’s just too many of these rumours flying around to be fake. I think new year the earliest. If they were confident on city they would have just set a date.

but it's going to be a building site till the flats and hotel are finished. it just look worse because all the cladding and glass isn't in. the thing is whatever their excuse was you wouldn't believe them because your you, you think the worst whether times are good or bad. your most probably 1 person that if we won the quadruple with every game being 4-0 you would find something to moan about(y)

Very frustrating experience for fans.

That said, you bought STs on the understanding that there could be delays and in that case the alternative venue was always likely to be Wembley. It’s in the t&cs and it’s common sense.

Nobody wanted this outcome so let’s all be grownups about it yeh ?

Hard to argue with this. I know that opening the stadium for the beginning of the new season was a big statement but in business, it's always wise to under-promise and over - deliver. Surely it was better to have pushed the opening date back at the beginning to allow for this to happen? This is a stadium that the club will hopefully remain in long after we're all gone so why rush a stadium of this magnitude?

We’ve also had people say it will be ready on time.

The wonderful thing about the internet maelstrom is that there are always a lot of people saying things with great confidence when really they don’t have a scooby. So no matter what your narrative you can always point to charlatans to back you up.

Grown ups can be upset too you know.
I know that by this time next year it'll just be a distant memory and I know I'm a grown man that should know better but at the moment it hurts.
To be honest I'd had it with wembley by the end of last season I was disappointed we had to play one game there this year so I'm certainly not happy about any more but most of all I'm gutted that I can't go and watch us at our new ground, I have been looking forward to it for years and just as it was within touching distance it's been taken away, it's like a metaphor for everything else, so near and yet so far.

To be fair it didnt say that:

I'm not defending her but he's exaggerating her reaction.
Also worth noting that he's posted a screenshot of one message in an 11 message thread. We have no context apart from what the poster wants us to know. I know it's all frustrating, but it's not really fair to take one email out of a thread like that.

Some info I've just received.

The timescale appears to be that around 1-2 ish yesterday afternoon there was an emergency meeting with DL, DC, some FA representatives and Mace where the problem was raised.

Later in the afternoon the press had got a sniff of the story that there was a potential delay. But internally the club were still in discussions and planning and as far as people knew it was a non story. By the evening, internal comms had been made that the delay was true and due to the growing press coverage they'd had to rush out a reactive statement rather than a planned press release this morning.

For the PL games that are being switched to Wembley we're being given a 1/19th refund and given complimentary tickets (so more than they did for Fulham).

There is a meeting between the club and the NFL this afternoon to discuss ticketing arrangements for Wembley but there was already a contingency in place. One possible outcome is that we'll be refunded on the NFL tickets and given priority access to purchase the nearest equivalent package for Wembley.

I can understand that frustration.

Your situation, like that of the guy coming from the us, is regrettable. Everyone wishes it could be differently.

Being upset is normal.

Yeah the fact that I've seen him on twitter saying one thing and the email another makes me question the integrity of the complaint. As much as we're annoyed with the situation it's good to deal in only facts rather than hyperbole.
