Amnesty International has spoken about about this and has asked the Premium League to see whether the consortium will meet the owners' and directors' test. Will the PL let it go through now that a high profile organisation is questioning it?

Nobody in football gave a flying fuck all the times when amnesty international pointed out the horrific things going on in Qatar so I doubt the PL will pay too much attention this time either.

The trouble is it's all too easy for them to just claim it's not their job to police the world, they just look at the footballing aspect of it. And it's hard for e.g. to government to show any kind of displeasure about it as well because they're just as I'm bed with the Saudis as anyone so it's a bit of a kettle/black situation really.

As with most things in football, if youre throwing money at people they don't care where it comes from. The entire sport has absolutely no shame, as they've demonstrated time and time again.

Yep. The Premier League will be delighted this is happening now too. As will a number of clubs. They are all going to be scrapping round for money soon and now this massive golden goose has come along, which may save them by purchasing a player or two off of them.

BeIn Sports came out against this as well. But that doesn't have much meaning as their Qatar. This is just wrong. As it would be if it were Qatar buying the club. As it was when Qatar won the WC. But this isnt about Qatar. You cannot allow an owner that is effectively an arm of a massive royal family that partakes in human right violations, terror funding, the minimalization of women and the killing and dismembering of someone who criticizes them. Fuck the Premier League and fuck Mike Ashley for selling to them.

Unfortunately there are some rather high profile precedants in play. The time to tell them to fuck off was when Mansoor bought City.

The fact that the Saudis will pass the fit and proper test despite the PL being involved in legal action against the Saudis over piracy shows how utterly pointless that test is.

If this goes through the arrogance of the geordies will be over and above anything we have seen before. let us remember that this is a fan-base that already believes they are a big club.

They‘ve already started and the takeover isn’t even complete.

Can’t see how this is in anyway positive for the league. If the owners decide to do a Man City / Chelsea that’s another spot at the top gone. I know Chelsea have spent 1 or 2 seasons out of the top 4, but they’ve been up there more often than not.

In 5 years time you could have, us, Arsenal, Utd, City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Newcastle fighting for a Top 4 spot and thats not even counting Leicester who have created a tidy side. I like how the league is competitive but adding another club that are likely to buy titles isn‘t gonna be great to watch, unless you’re a neutral.

Didn't Chelsea come back and win the league both times?

You could add Everton to the list below, their owners are rich too.

Only in 16/17. When they finished 6th and won the CL they finished 3rd the next season.

So they've won the league the one season under Abramovich where they've been out of Europe altogether.

Yeah I suppose if you're a neutral you could find it even more exciting with potentially 3 or 4 teams going into each season with a serious expectation of winning the league, rather than the usual 1 or 2.

No doubt it seems like very bad news for ourselves. It seems inevitable it will make things tougher. However we shouldn't be too disheartened. We've had our best seasons of the last thirty years since the money of the Chelsea and Man City owners came into the game. Likewise Liverpool have built arguably the best side in Europe whilst not being entirely bankrolled by owners ready to sink billions into the club.

I have said many times " since when has integrity and football gone hand in hand " if the premier league ok this takeover it just reinforces what we all know and that is only money talks the next time someone says " the league must be finished for the integrity of the game " I will be telling them to eff off .

The Oil Firm Derby

The Abu Derby

The Oil Classico.

The internet does tickle me sometimes.
