It is a satisfying feeling finishing above them again but nowhere near as satisfying as previous seasons when we have sealed CL football. It's still a nice little win but I couldn't give two shits about them to be honest. They need a much bigger rebuild than we do and I genuinely see them being very average for at least the next few seasons. They really shouldn't be beating Chelsea in the final and I genuinely don't think they will. If we can seal 6th place next season I will consider that a small success considering our position when Jose took over. Let's back him over the summer with 3/4 signings to strengthen the squad and see what he can do with it.

For us to lose that Europa league spot, it will take:-

1. Chelscum to lose to Wolves, which they shouldn't, considering they need to fight tooth and nail to get that CL spot
2. Spurs to lose to Palace, which we shouldn't, considering Palace are in an awful place right now, having lost their 7 last games in a row
3. Arse to win the FA Cup, which they shouldn't, considering their awful season

You know what that means, dont you? Even when we least expect it to happen, or when the odds are so small, it can still happen if the receiving end is Spurs.

I fear another 2012.

Honest question: What would happen if Wolves or United end up 5 th/ 6th and one of them wins the Europa League? Does that free up a spot as the winner goes to CL?

I read somewhere if we finish sixth and wolves win the europa we drop out of the Europe. Not sure how true that is but only the same number of teams in Europe at a time from one country.

I don't really care. I thought it was great to finish above them the first time did it under Pochettino, because it represented something more than "just" one singular league position. But now that's done, now we have been repeatedly better than them, I just don't see them as a league benchmark. Defeating them on the match day was far sweeter to me.

As I understand it, 7th would be good enough if either Wolves win the Europa, or Utd do and finish outside of the top 4. I'd rather not have to test that theory though!

We have to be honest 4years against over 20 years and we have a long way to go before we can claim North London is spurs

Interesting to see that over the last 10 seasons we've won more league points than them!

Just as interesting that they have won 3 FA Cups and 3 Community Shields in that period then, with our cabinet bare.

The worst Arsenal team in a generation was still more successful than the best Tottenham team in a generation. Let that sink in.

Whilst that's true, those cups won't halt the slide. Wigan plummeted after an FA Cup win, for example, whereas getting high in the league tends to result in general growth for a club.

What I'm saying is that they have been getting those on the way down. Despite this season being a blip, we have generally been on the way up and I'd hope that Jose will take us into that next chapter of winning a couple of bits.

Not sure about the EL, but that's not true of the CL any more. As 17/18 saw 5 English sides in the CL after United won the Europa League (Tottenham, Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool). I think there would just be 5 teams in the CL (Wolves + top 4) and the same number in the EL but I may be wrong on that. Might be worth googling what happened to the EL places in 17/18. It gets a bit messy I think since Arsenal came 5th and won the FA Cup, and United won the League cup too. Everton were the only other team to have qualified so maybe you're right that 6th wouldn't do it in that case.

I know what you mean but finishing above them will never not be boring. We'll do it next season too and the next (if we get CL). The longer they stay out of the Champions League, and we finish in it, the further we will pull ahead of them. The new stadium will help see to that too once fans are back in it. CL qualification is key though, we cant afford to not seal it next year. They'll be nowhere near it.
