There aren’t any but it’s because we are Tottenham. This is like West Ham signing Wayne Rooney. Even today’s Arsenal are too high in stature to react that way to any player coming in. Roma are never confused with the top tier of Italian football even though they have a very strong fan base and so when they get a player of such a high stature….you get this. It requires a rabid fan base at a club that is sufficiently low in the food chain where the differential between club and signing is very great. None of the top six is low low enough for that differential to be high enough. I suppose if Arsenal had signed Haaland maybe….?
Real Madrid? Ronaldo... Bale...

What player would it take for us to turn up to Tottenham, even remotely like that?
Tottenham being annexed by Spain, Germany, or Italy I presume. Our fanbase’s passion sucks compared to the continent, it’s very good for England but it just doesn’t compare in the slightest. A bunch of posh ****s who go to the football on their corporate cards and couldn’t tell you the difference between Sheringham and Shelvey.

There seems to be a level of socialized embarrassment that prevents ultra-western societies like Britain and the US from truly losing their heads over sports like the Europeans do. Class also has a lot to do with it, as does the high amount of transplants in London compared to the continent. And of course, outrageously expensive ticket prices and the scourge social media making everyone taking videos rather than actually participating, means it’s only getting worse.

If we signed Dybala, we might get a miserable prick like me turning out with a sign complete with graphs and heat maps, just to tell him his xG outperformance isn’t sustainable and his dribbling patterns are incredibly predictable and easily gameplanned around. Bring back the ultras.

It depends on what you deem passion vs. insanity

Honestly, I love my team, but I also have a life - I'm a middle aged father. I have a job, and kids, and a wife and I need my sleep and exercise.

Going to games - great. But the idea that I would make a long journey simply to bow at the feet of a footballer watching over the masses is just super weird.

That might make me less 'passionate', but I'd argue it's cause they're mental!

100% agree. And that’s just some guy signing for us. Now I MIGHT consider it if Kane won us the league and scored 50goals and 50 assists and a goal from a direct freekick, but it would have to be on a Saturday afternoon and the weather needs to be nice. Hell I’d even buy a fake shirt.

honestly only player I think that would bring out a crowd like that would be Ronaldo/Messi circa 2013ish in their primes. I would fly out to london from the US to see the first match they played for us. It would have to be like GOAT status to get that sort of turnout

I do think it is a London thing though and it isnt just signings but say if we progressed to the final or even won the CL final. I doubt spurs fans would converge to WHL to celebrate. You go to Liverpool, Leeds, Newcastle, Manchester - they tend to surround the stadium a fair bit when it comes to signings and celebrating finals etc.

It takes a lot of motivation to spend an hour nd a half to go to the stadium just to do what Roma fans did or to celebrate the Spurs win to get to the CL final.

I'd say London having dozens of clubs compared to the northern cities being 1 or 2 club cities makes a difference there. There's much more of a community feeling amongst them due to a higher concentration of supports in the area.

I thought it was because they make a proper show around it. Like real entertainment, not just showing a new player. Just my speculation though...
