If all else fails, we have five months to sort the image rights out before signing him in January for the final push to the title :woot:

It's off again at the moment. There's 3 and a half hours and extension time to go yet. People can walk back into meetings and still pick up phones.

Honestly not sure what else we could have done, which makes this even more painful. To have something as stupid as image rights ruin this is properly depressing

Hate to use this word, but how Spursy that we have missed out on this deal not due to the transfer fee or wages (2 things that we love to blame Levy and the club in general for transfers-wise, rightly or wrongly) but on something so bloody random like image rights? Unbelievable..

Not really. Apparently, the image rights issue was also a key reason why United couldn't make progress on the deal. It's not just us.

Reading between the lines, it appears that the clubs had an agreement, and we had a deal with the player re: wages, but couldn't make progress with the third party holding his image rights.

If true, well, shit happens. Back on the phone to Sporting Lisbon perhaps?

Personally think it looks fucking rank amateur to watch United flirt with him for over a week only to then fall to the same hurdles with couple of days to go. However it may just be perception because it was in the media and I don't know what happened behind closed doors and how long it was ongoing.

I am not buying the image rights stuff. We would have worked that all out before even bidding. It doesn't make any sense.

Not sure how reliable...

"Tottenham had managed to convince Juventus to help them pay Paulo Dybala's wages. They agreed to it - but Juventus withdrew after Spurs asked for help paying his image rights. Spurs might've pushed harder but weren't totally convinced Dybala wanted to join."

Thanks for translating.

Fuck Eriksen man, honestly.

He doesn’t want to be here and us being reliant on someone who’d rather be elsewhere is not a good thing.

The one variable is if the player wanted to come here more than MU. That would make all parties more amenable with the exception of the image rights company. That willingness might have allowed for more money to be thrown at the third party.
