Not sure how you can judge Emerson as a poor right back when we haven’t played a formation with right backs since Conte joined?
Did play 4-4-2 against Chelsea away last season , didn't do us much good

Base meeting sporting coming week . If it doesn’t advance after talks will fall on the clause which imo will collapse the deal but you never know . Don’t read all regurgitation in the press. Still need to ship out some rbs tho as previously stated .

It’s the shipping out of Spence and Emerson that I’m concerned about considering we haven’t heard of any concrete interest in either of them.

The falling on the clause and collapsing concerns me, it’s the clause they want.

We was told it was imperative to back Conte!!

If we're unwilling to pay for Porro, I wonder if we have concrete interest in someone else (versus just persisting with Doc/Emerson) Vanderson and Frimpong have been mooted on here (Gusto as well?) Anyone know what they would cost?

Just smacks of penny pinching as usual ?

Usually I’d agree but do we really want another Gunter, naughton, Walker, corluka situation???

Its just too many players for one position and it’s what I think will stop us signing him. Zero links on any of those going out.

Besides, Man City can buy him for just over £20 million, which reflects his market value, not his release clause of approx £40 million. Maybe if we get taken over by the Qataris we can do that type of signing but not now and I actually wouldn’t blame them for not wanting to pay the release clause. Which as covered a million times, has to be paid in one lump sum.

The concern is shifting out Royal, I reckon Spence will be straight forward to some degree, it’s probably just a matter of picking the best loan for him and his development. Royal on the other hand I don’t see leaving on a permanent and even a loan I don’t see a club looking for a buy option. At least not one he will want to go for or one that match’s our valuation.

It’s called negotiation. Every team does it. Even Chelsea who are chucking money around for fun walked away from the Fernandez deal because they weren’t prepared to pay the release clause.
I keep seeing the Fernandez comparison, 110m is diffferent to 37m, we have massive games coming up this deal should have been done early if he is the man we want.

Disagree. I think Royal will have plenty of suitors from clubs that play the right way to suit him. He gets a lot of stick, but he's actually very good at what he does. And a great pro by all accounts. It's just that he doesn't suit how we play. And in fact, say Conte were to leave and Poch come back, I don't think he suit Poch either. But a team without marauding fullbacks, he will be a success there.

The comparison is there as buying clubs try want to pay what they value the player at. Porro has only had one and half decent seasons in a comparatively poor league. Maybe we don’t think he is worth his release clause. The club always has the guard against over paying, because if we sign him and the next manager doesn’t rate him, we don’t want to take a big loss on him.

Consistently over paying for players while getting rid of dead wood at knock down prices is an awful way to run a business.

How much do you think the club are going to save negotiating? 3-5m either way if 37m is going to break the club then we aren’t anywhere near ready to sit at the big boys table and we should adjust accordingly.

37m is pretty much punt money these days we spent more on Dav 5 or 6 years ago.

We don’t know how much our transfer budget is or the total value and structure of the deal Sporting are demanding. Remember any transfer deal consists of more than the baseline transfer fee you read in the media. So it’s pointless speculating.

This type of thinking is seen often with fans and i'll hold my hands up, of course i'd have liked a new signing in the first week of January to help the team in these crucial matches. But the reality is that any new player is likely to come in on a 5 or 6 yr deal, so you really need to be looking at the bigger picture, not just an upcoming set of matches against some difficult opponents. The club need to get the right players in at the right prices, we know there isn't much wiggle room for mistakes.
