It's not though. It depends on the country.

An interesting video bellow

Interesting watch and thanks for sharing, but it’s not gonna change my OCD that a number 5 should be a CB in my head!

Doesn’t quite disturb me as much as when Dempsey was #2 though. That was all kinds of wrong.

Best ball recoverer in the world, sounds like something we need every time Sissoko shoots... new level of ball boy skills required for that. Most expensive ball boy transfer in world football.
Seriously though, the kind of player we have needed for a while, good signing.

Not sure about ball recovery but we need someone who can get the ball because most of the time we run around in circles without it

Joking aside…

Some info:

Welcome to Pierre-Emile Højbjerg (PEH). He is now the third Dane in Tottenham Hotspur's history after Allan Nielsen and Christian Eriksen.

In 2012 only 16 years old PEH switched from Brøndby to FC Bayern Munich and their U19 team. Already in 2013, he made his debut for the first team and at that time became the youngest player ever in a Bundesliga match - Pep Guardiola was the man behind the debut. The potential was huge that anyone could see it..

In 2014, PEH lost his father to cancer he was working so hard at Bayern to play games so that he would get bonusses for 1st team appearances, to which he needed to pay the bills for his father cancer treatment. But his father lost the battle to cancer.

It all came together in this Interview after Denmark beat Serbia 2-0.

After that time he was first loaned to Augsburg and later Schalke 04, when Joshua Kimmich and David Alaba had to play in midfield, before Bayern in 2016 sold the 20-year-old Dane to Southampton for £12.8m. In 2018, PEH became captain at Southampton at the age of 22 - he reached 109 games and 4 goals for the club.

Player profile:

PEH was in his early years more an 8 than a 6 in the Bundesliga, but has in recent years developed more in the direction of a 6. However, he is not a traditional 6 in that sense. He is not a destroyer / anchor like Sandro / Wanyama was, but more a combination of a ball-winner / regista who is very aggressive, loves to tackle and has a good engine - but at the same time is good with the ball.

He's basically a better version of Harry Winks - on all parameters. I see he has already got some stick from our fans about his passing. Let me just say do not be worried about that - his passing is just fine and people will be surprised.

If you have seen his first interview, you can see that he is very down to earth and incredibly intelligent guy. That interview is real class. PEH’s greatest force is his personality - he’s an absolute warrior. His mental strength and passion is absolutely exceptional.

Other strengths are his reading of the play, physical, athletic attributes and he also has a good shot at him.

PEH work rate is massive and should free up a lot of space for our other midfielders. He's exactly the player we were missing and understandably he was Jose's # 1 choice.

I think he could really be the glue. He's not as physically gifted as Mousa Dembele, but he's going to bring some physicality back to the middle of the park and one with actual productivity from a defensive actions standpoint. Very excited by this, and by the prospect of having a real leader in the middle of the pitch.

Hojbjerg and Lo Celso are going to add serious bite and physicality back in the middle. Something we've missed since Wanyama and Dembele.

That description puts me at ease somewhat. Cheers.

What's with the missing bit in it all - it seems like he went to Bayern, did remarkably well, Pep liked him.....

...and then he went to Southampton. What happened there?

This does actually feel like a really good signing and feels like it's a signing we've needed for a long time - feels weird that we've actually addressed an area we're in dire need of and to do it so quickly as well feels me with confidence going into next season.

Went on loan to Augsburg then Schalke. Played most games that season for Schalke and then wanted regular football which he wasn't guaranteed at Bayern. Asked for a transfer and wanted the PL. Also talks a bit about his decision on the Ramble podcast episode linked somewhere in this thread....
