There's usually a game on there Friday night for the first weekend of the season nowadays. That's why I suspect its fake.

No chance. That's got conspiracy theory written all over it.
If he got that then every team with aspirations will always be requesting a home game as a starting fixture.
We would see City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs, United and even Arsenal all getting a home game.
Pretty sure it’s true they always have articles each year around the fixture computer and how many variables go into creating such a beast

Etc...

Nothing there corroborates that Arsenal always get their opener at home because Wenger requested it.
It's preposterous to suggest he asked for an advantage and got it.

That's not to say something isn't going on. There's no way on Earth 23 away games out of 27 (numbers not checked but close enough) is a randomly generated outcome. Arsenal ARE getting an advantage. It's just highly unlikely it's because they out right asked for it.

It's probably got something more to do with the Met being able to plan for that weekend, and they know Arsenal were at home and Spurs away. I'm sure there's some less than nefarious reasons it takes place that way.

Arsenal always have a nice run in of easy games too.

The way I’ve heard it explained (many years ago) is that each team gets a set of requests that they can make (can we be at home for Boxing Day, can we finish with a home game, can we play home games after Europe, etc...).

Not all of these requests could be factored in but they would try to accommodate as many as they could. Wenger would always put his main request as ‘can we start with a home game’ as he valued getting off to a good start.

Does that mean we never get any of our 'advantageous' requests granted? Because I can't remember having any fixtures that really benefitted us.

Apparently I’ve heard a rumour that every team gets to play each other both home and away at some point in the season.

Not sure how true it is.

The final fixtures in both this and the previous seasons were both at home. I’d say that was an advantage.

I’d say we had a good run this year of home games after CL matches along with playing our early games away from home...

He means the last 4 or 5.

...of which they lost most of anyway.

to be honest I can't remember the last time Arsenal had a difficult run in their last 8 fixtures. they might of had to play 1 of the other big 6, but never seem to have 2 or 3 in there.

after seeing us being away for the last 7-8 seasons on the 1st day, I doubt anything will change. I also expect us to have 2 blocks where we play Arse, Spam and Chelsea in a 2 week spell 1 being a midweek fixture. The other thing I expect will be Liverpool at home within our first 3 home games.

I think we will get either Everton or Man U away to start off

Watching that comp makes me wonder why our players don't seem to shoot much from distance anymore, some of those balls are gonna end up in the net boys, have a crack!

Wasn't Wanyama's Rocket Shot against Liverpool? Shoulda done a few of those in the final....

I wish

Still haven’t got over that

Main thing I’m hoping for is no home fixtures between 11-18th Sept as I’m away for work. Had to miss the Liverpool game last season so hoping not to miss any this time round
