Is it?

I literally have no idea what players are worth anymore. Does £50m get you Sancho? No idea tbh, and he's more of a winger.

We'd need a playmaker if Eriksen goes. I'd be more inclined to get NDombele (which we should be doing anyway, to replace Dembele) and that kid from Austria (Wolf) as a punt.

That was a joke (easy), I suspect both those players will go for nearer £80M-£100M than £50M if they leave next summer. But it was under the premise that we get a young playmaker from Real (Asensio, or basically their best young talent open to coming).

Happy to give Lamela a shot at it if he stays fit this season, plus Dele looks to be maturing into a Midfield fulcrum player as well.

If we reinvested say £140M from selling Eriksen we could be stacked with NDombele.

My inclination would be to throw big money at Sancho, said last summer that I felt he was a much bigger talent Vs Sessegnon and that is bearing out. Wasn't he from Watford? If so he can live near his family and friends with us.

Asensio would be the ultimate player I want if we could try and swing a player from them, I went out to Madrid after we beat them 3-1 at Wembley and watched them against Las Palmas and he scored a fucking worldie.

The "one club" seems romantic to me. IMO he'd leave us for Madrid, Barca, Bayern, Juve, PSG and potentially even United or City.

I love him, but wouldn't begrudge him a move to one of the giants abroad. I also don't think it'd be as catastrophic as others seem to if he were to move on. Just bring back Pritchard.
I'm not sure any of those clubs would be the one club other than the two Spanish clubs and JJ says it's not Barca we are left with the other one.
Ordinarily I'm sure a player would entertain the idea of playing for any of those clubs but he is already at a club at which he is happy so it's which one of those clubs would he want to leave us for and why? I'm not sure it is all about money for him by any means.

I'd want us to get similar money as Liverpool got for Coutinho.

If you couple his workrate with his creativity I can't think of another creative midfielder better or more versatile than him in Europe (De Bruyne is a bit different IMO). He's a manager's dream.

If we got that sort of cash for him I'd genuinely try to get Pogba off United.

Not happening, Coutinho signed a silly deal where it was a 5/6 year deal, he had 4/5 years left on his deal, Eriksen has 1 year plus Barca were walking around with fresh Neymar cash and the whole world knew that. You can't look player for player and say because of skill that's the money, there's more factors and where we have been desperate to cling onto Eriksen, he has patiently held off on signing a new deal thus making it far easier for future employers to get him. Same as Hazard. Honestly wouldn't be shocked if Madrid had been in each players ear and told them to wait it out considering they held off on recruiting additional players in the summer.

*2 points from 8 games, losing at home to Sunderland and Hull
**AVB losing the plot, thrashed by West Ham at home, then Sherwood taking over

But, yeah, it was fine after we'd gone through a couple of managers.

Whilst i agree we folded somewhat after those two left, we are a totally different prospect now. Eriksen is quality, and pulls alot of strings, but we have Dele, Kane, Son, Lucas, Lamela all providing something to this team. Plus the main man, Poch.

If there was any a time to lose such an influential player like Eriksen, now wouldnt be the worst time for it. Hope he stays though of course!

I'd wonder if Eriksen would sign the extension if we inserted a release clause only to the specific club he was interested. Would benefit both sides, you'd think.

Edit - I'm adding to this

Coutinho new deal - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/38741844
Coutinho signs deal 1 year on- https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/42580173

Van Dijk Six year deal until 2022 in May 2016 - https://southamptonfc.com/news/2016-05-07/van-dijk-signs-new-six-year-contract-with-saints
Van Dijk joins Liv 1st of Jan 2018 - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/42496637

Honestly if you wanna look at the kind of deals we would be looking at:

Courtois 35 Million to Madrid with 12 months left on contract - https://www.skysports.com/football/...hibaut-courtois-completes-move-to-real-madrid

However we have Levy so I'm hoping for something more akin to this: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/41098529

Ox joined for 35 Million which seemed like a large sum at the time for somebody with 12 months left, Fingers crossed considering the ability of Eriksen coupled with Levy negotiations plus the fact that Eriksen will be unlikely to strike we can pump it up to 50.

What I'd say on the matter is this, If Eriksen and Alder leave for cut prices, we shouldn't scold Levy for it but rather acknowledge that it's simply apart of the evolution of how players are making their dream moves happen. We were thrilled that Alder joined and he hasn't signed a new contract since and there's not a lot Levy can do about that other than throw stupid money which isn't sustainable. Eriksen joined in 2013, it was amazing we got him to sign a new contract in 2016 quite frankly and my understanding is that no amount of money will turn Eriksens head as he proved when he joined us in the first place.

We must be doing something right though as proved by our top four finishes and our players being in such demand by the very best teams.
Of course we're doing lots of things right. And I know it's not easy. I'm sure nothing about being a top-four club in the PL is easy.

I'm just saying I don't have confidence in us adequately replacing Eriksen.

We aren't going to go and buy a superstar, so we have to be shrewd and take a calculated gamble on someone who has the potential. And we don't seem to be recruiting those types of midfielders. Eriksen has great skill and vision, and also - I think - regularly runs more than any other player in our team. His only weakness is tackling and, bizarrely, corners. If ever we needed our scouts to find a gem, this'll be the time.

Eriksen was exactly that type of player you say we should be looking for. He was talented but tended to fade badly in and out of matches. As he matured and with Poch’s guidance he has become the world star we all admire. No reason why he can’t find similar although that player may not be a direct replacement and we may have to change how we play.

No one want him to go, but if it's his plan I hope we get enough money for him so that we can sign both Sancho and Grealish.
Sancho can become as good, though in a different position. Grealish would bring some similar abilities and compete with Dele Alli in an attacking midfield position. I think we'd stay at same level as a team with those changes.

Our wage structure remains, so we won't replace him with a like for like player - we're all about signing the next big thing.
If we could pay Pogba's wages then we'd have no problem holding onto Eriksen neither.

Either a new contract or a move to Barca won't happen until the summer.
At that point the following players will have also left the club: Dembele, Fernando, Vorm, Janssen, GKN + possibly Edwards, CCV, Onomah or TOB or Amos. Also think there is a real chance Aurier leaves (would be Trippier but HG an issue). That is 5-8 players out.
Additionally Toby will either sign or be out.
Why raise this on the Eriksen thread? Well there is a bigger restructuring of our squad than people appreciate that will happen next summer....hope Eriksen is not part of it but he could be and it would create risks and opportunities.
