How many times have you heard Poch speak about ”arriving in a good moment”? Fresh and ready.
Eriksen unlike most others has had zero competition for his role which has to lead to some sort of fatigue.
Everyone speaks of Kane getting knackered but Eriksen plays more games, runs more every game and is supposed to have all the answers when opposition parks the bus.
Competition from GLC will allow for rotation and much needed rest every now and then and if by chance GLC overtakes Eriksen that will sure as hell make us hard to stop from scoring.
Eriksen is a top player, overused and knackered last season but still a top player!

He is a top player without a doubt that's not in question. Does he have what it takes when the chips are down is the question?
That's how I differentiate between a top player and a great player ,a game changer

Exactly. But he is treated as a God in some places. Genius in others.Thats what irks me and here he is being compared to Wanyama etc.
Why?
Really it's a conundrum.
He either is a galactico or not.Maybe that's RMs question about him.
Im not comparing him to Wanyama at all. I'm just saying that last season, if Eriksen was having a poor game (dont think was as bad as some say), Poch would look over his shoulder to the bench to see Wanyama as the only midfield option. He probably would have benefitted from a break (whether dropped or rested) but that was impossible.

Interestingly enough, in a season where some of you are saying he was poor, and a season where the team as a whole struggled, only 2 players in the entire prem beat him for assists, Eden Hazard and Ryan Fraser.

More than Sterling, Sane, KDB (who admittedly was injured for a long spell), David Silva, Bernardo Silva etc, etc.

Makes you wonder what his stats would have looked like if our strike force had finished better than they showed.

He’s highly regarded by some on here because he is consistently one of the top 5 creative players in the most demanding league on earth. His poorest season and he’s top 3?

Honestly, some of you guys need to give yourselves an upper cut.

It's true we didn't have any other creative players to call on.Its a shame. I think maybe Poch valued physical players over creative players (Ndombele is both) and thats why we had less creative players (Liverpool has several as does most other top teams)
Poch relied on pressure pressing and tough defences to create something.Thats true and I agree Eriksen paid the price.
And part of it was our game based on possession short passes for the most part that hurt us while defences parked until we wore them down that Eriksen really couldn't do more.I don't know.
I'm sure with Ndombele behind him he would do better though.
I do feel that great players do things despite the situation.
Anyway I'm happy to keep Eriksen I just want to some more fluidity and maybe Poch will bring that this year

Would you regard Hoddle as a great player? Probably the most creative player of his generation and many others.

I watched him a lot and many were the times he was unable to influence a game.

Fortunately there were many more games where he had a big influence.

See where this is going?

And before you start on the “you’re not honestly comparing Eriksen to Hoddle are you?” tosh, no I’m not.

Yes but you keep mentioning it without joining any conversation

What conversation? Which thread are we in? Can I reply in this thread or in one of the others that’s littered with the same conversational pieces?

Carry on, btw. It’s highly amusing.

For me the key thing isn't Eriksen's form - it's what he provides the team. Even an off form Eriksen still makes tons of passes, provides assists, knits the team together and scores a fair few goals.

Sure, it's irritating to see him not at his best, but he's absolutely integral if we want to play fluid, progressive football. He's a really intelligent player and replacing him would be a nightmare - I think we'd need to sign Lo Celso + 1 to equal his output. Plus he's a really decent bloke. Cut the man some slack.

I do wonder if Eriksen leaves it will be Ndombele, LC, and maybe Zaha if Bale isn't doable.

To lose Eriksen and only bring in the first two wouldnt be enough imo.
I think and hope this is why we are being ‘clever’ in other areas to make sure we really prioritise the midfield as this will be the area we win and lose games and points. Having trippier or Aurier or KWP won’t effect us too much but not having that depth of quality in midfield will lose us games especially big games against the top 6 etc.

Just hope that if he stays the crowd really get behind him, I’m sure they will especially if he plays with a smile on his face again and plays with the intensity and quality of the 2-3 seasons before this one because whilst I respect and understand his comments about ‘new challenge’ basically Real Madrid come get me plea, at the end of the day he’s still publicly basically said if the prettier girl asks him out he’ll dump us and for pride and egos sake I’d like to just see him go, similar but different to rose as we just want all players who’re 100% committed to the cause but that being said he just so fucking class if the crowd get behind him and he gets the right attitude, ideally signing a new deal then that + adding say a lo celso and we will be ducking mustard next season.

In my opinion YES! If he is allowed a breather every now and then. I’m fairly certain that running the furthest most often does result in fatigue. Fatigue can be treated with rest, but in a specialist role without competition rest migth not be an option...
I’ll try to get my point across as clearly as i can with my limited knowledge of the written english language: Eriksen if allowed ample rest/rotation WILL dictate play and provide 10+ assist (some of insane Quality) next season. He will dip in form over the season (like every other player in the history of the game) but still be our most creative and trusted player when we are looking to unlock opponents defence!

Fair enough. His stats are great and if he stayed I think it cant be bad. I do think Ndombele will have a profound effect on our whole team and that shouldnt hurt the dynamic
Maybe I relied too much on Eriksen. Its possible

Did he take a knock or something?

He was doing some running training alone after FT. Could be juz coincident since he was first out for some laps.

The positive thing is that he has travel with the squad and has done media interviews, usually that is a good sign that the club is confident he is sticking around.

I've not been around that long,I am an old twat myself but I have always offered fresh ideas.
While I respect constructive criticism and throwing around ideas with some logic by whoever I have no respect for the cowardly lemmings that jump on the wagon. Thanks for that mate. When you put yourself out there sometimes its sunny sometimes its ominous clouds that's the business we have chosen. Thanks Mate!
