@southlondonyiddo gets you off your seat? How low are your standards. Ginola, Bale, Berbatov, Klinsmann get you off your seat. Even Defoe and Keane on occasion. Rose? Not having it. We was for a time very capable, albeit he’s never been able to either cross or stop a cross, but his gumption and tenacity made up for it. Now it doesn’t.

As for a fullback to get you off your seat, none better for that than BAE.

As for you ‘game is about glory’ comment, does that mean you hold Bentley in equally high esteem? As his goal v Arsenal was at least as good, if not better.

Thought not.

Bentley! Now your talking. What a player ?

I re-watched the goal because it’s hard to see from one still.

There was an advanced player out left who could have made the run that prompted Toby to move. But he didn’t make the run. So youre right that his movement was strange. Only thing that I can think is that you thought Almiron (?) would put it between him and KWP... but he should see there’s no threat.

l think you are kind on Rose who had completely switched off. He only switched on when the ball was played. He was in completely the wrong place. Very bad defending. So basic for a fullback.

I don’t think Sissoko did anything wrong. His body shape is good and he’s slowed the attacker down. He’s never going to take on Sissoko so he has to play the ball there. He has one option and the defence completely fails to do with it.

Sanchez doesn’t need to move across and cover that space even if Toby goes. He has to defend the goal first. And in any case he should move across with his body open to see the forward.

Joelinton puts his hand up cos he knows Sanchez can’t see him.

I’m not so happy with KWP but his bad body shape is of no consequence here.

This is why I'm uneasy on the notion of sacking off both Belgians, we need an organiser as we are tactically a mess at the back.

I hate stats. I bet Davies has better stats than Kyle Walker had at Spurs.

You say that obviously stats are a good indication of a fullbacks attacking prowess. Well clearly they are not. You only need to open your eyes and watch the game

My judgement is slightly bias towards Rose because he was World Class for a time and is a Tottenham type player. Gets you off your seat. Something we desperately need at the new bowl

I wouldn’t open the curtains to watch Davies if he was in my back garden.

I pay a lot of money to watch Tottenham and unfortunately Davies bores the shit out of me. Nothing against the boy it’s just a fact. He’s a fucking boring player to watch!

Just watch the Wales highlights from their match against Slovakia the other night, Davies had a stinker defensively - he was all over the place. He’s nowhere near good enough to be first choice for us.

Rose is by far the better option although well out of sorts right now like many players in the team.

Said it before Davies against pacey wingers is a nightmare but he offers the most stability and consistency out of the two.

Just get Sess in :D

I think Rose has his shortcomings for sure and is not as hard to upgrade on as I may have thought in the past but I've always preferred his tenacity and pace over what Davies offers. Rose has his ups and down and Davies may have more of a single level of play but I personally think the level that Rose is most consistent on is higher than the level that Davies is consistent on anyway.

I just find Davies to be very languid.

Not looking forward to seeing season on getting ripped to shreds by everyone when he’s thrown in at left back.

we should be buying two new first choice fullbacks. Proper fullbacks not shoehorned in players.

You are being very kind to him.
The word you want is 'dozy' not 'languid'.

Love Rose for the reasons you state
but he seems to have reached
the end of the line and his temper.

I remember everyone being up in arms when it looked like Rose was on his way to Watford ( anyone know the reported fee? ) I wonder if those same people feel the same now?

To all those criticising Ben Davies, he just got a fantastic assist for Wales equaliser against Croatia.

I don't recall anyone being bothered on here? Certainly not 'everyone', anyway.

Davies is a better defender.
Rose is a better attacker.
We'll win more games with Rose than Davies imo.
The shit we are playing at the moment and constant change of back 4, and the midfield in front of them, cannot be dumped on the shoulders of Rose.
If Davies had been playing we may still have lost and people would be calling for his head and saying why the fk is Rose on the bench.
The problems we face are way bigger than any one player unfortunately.
Imo the way Poch and Liverpool and most teams set up these days if you havent got fast decent full backs the whole thing turns into AVB keep ball dross but thats another story.

He’s looked off it for a long time. Even last season when people said he was back to his best I just couldn’t see it. I believe the overall drop in quality from the rest of the team simply made him appear better than he was. We haven’t had quality at left back since 2016/17. Hopefully Sess can improve us.

The full backs really are a mess.

I had and maybe still have a soft spot for Danny but surely no player can be considered world class if they can't consistently cross a ball, especially when it's a mandate for their position on the pitch.

Rose as an attacking player these days is basically him getting the ball, trying to dribble and in the best of times manages to win a free kick. His crossing is back to pre Poch level, and his passing is general is very simple.

Davies wont complete as many dribbles and will need a bit of team play to get into a crossing position, but he's better at both crossing and attacking passes in general.

In times where our team structure is poor and we just need to get the ball upfield somehow and make it stick (by winning a foul) then a case can be made for Rose being the better option (not regarding that his defending has been absolutely mental this season). When the team is more settled, then Davies is the better pick.
