Carragher is spot on with Alli. He's not a great midfield player. It's good others see the same thing.

He's a second striker, and one without pace. It's a bit of a luxury in the modern system.

The only thing Carrager has ever been "spot on" with is his aim spitting out of car windows, revolting dimwit that he is.

Alli is a bit of an enigma in that he's been moulded by Pochettino to play a very specific role in tandem with Kane and Eriksen, and a functioning midfield.

I went back and watched some of his early games with us and there weren't nearly so many flicks. Poch developed him this way as we moved towards vertical football with very high risk passes in the final third.

Alli's game became built on these "flicks", and he had a monster season at 20 years of age. So it's not surprising that when his form dips his instinct is to revert back to what gave him success, albeit with less confidence and poorer execution.

I get the frustration with it, and I think it's fair to question whether he'll have a challenge on his hands evolving his game to suit a counter attacking 433 (whether as an 8, LWF, or false 9).

He's certainly going to need to be a lot more efficient with the ball, than how he's been COACHED HOW TO PLAY as a 9 1/2 for 5 years.

That's his challenge. If he fails, other players will eventually take his place because - hot take - JM quite likes winning.

I just wish in the meantime people would let JM do his work and not make Alli the scapegoat for everything that's gone wrong in the past 18 months.

The strange thing about Alli is he doesn't look like he can't sprint anymore any more. If he can't and there is injury holding him back then he needs to deal with it. If he can sprint then his lack of effort means get him out starting line up until he can put the effort in.

I don’t know what to say that has already been said about Dele. I can’t stand to watch him much longer.

Awful again today offers absolutely nothing. Hope we have seen the last of him in the starting 11

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again.

Frustrating. He seems so immobile, too.

Squad player at this stage. Sad where his career appears to be going. Hopefully he can sort himself out and become a productive part of the team again

How many times did he give the ball away today? Thank God Ndombele came on and made an instant impact. Hopefully it starts to sway Jose's thinking.

I'll repeat, we will be a better team with Alli on the bench. Ndombele, Winks and Lo Celso in midfield.

Said before - he's still only 23 and there could still be a ceiling way above we know of him. As long as he keep trying, I'll always root for him. And today he showed he does, despite the early stamp on his ankle. Still think he's a very gifted and extraordinary player, but the form is evading him at the moment.

He's always going to give the ball away because he's high risk. I can live with that as long as we're solid behind him.

Maybe having his ankle nearly snapped in half took something out of him?

he more I see the more I am not sure what position he is playing. He has such talent, this has to be confusing to even him...

Fuck me, your life must be really shit to log straight in and slag off one of our players after that. I hope things get better for you.

Can't be critical of his performance. Sterling tried to end his career after only 12 minutes. He couldn't sprint or move freely after

Still think Alli could do the 'Firminho' role while Kane is out. He's an intelligent enough footballer.

I was thinking about this, i think i'd rather see Lamela play this role with pace either side of him. He is more similar to him than Dele. Both work their socks off, he's technical, got an eye for a pass and think would do a better job then Dele who constantly takes 3 touches too many.

I think we all need to remember, Alli fit and on form is an elite player. Let's not slag him off. 2 years ago he was unstoppable.

Something is clearly wrong

Think he is starting to mature, come back on and gave plenty considering his ankle/foot were almost at a right angle after Sterling did his best effort at snapping it.
