Just going on Dragon's info, who's been very accurate so far.
Tbf Ings is a brilliant player and has looked as good as any striker in the league over the past 18 months while playing for a fairly average So'ton side. I'd love him at Spurs but I just don't think the deal makes a whole lot of sense for either club.

It has been one of the biggest pleasures in my Spurs supporting lifetime watching this lad develop and turn into a world class player.
He has not been good enough in the last 18 months. He knows it. We know it. The manager knows it.
Sometimes a hard reset in a career is needed and I think that time has come. I think he needs a new hone to fulfil his destiny and promise.

How does that guy know what we're doing?

Dele not involved again today is a pretty big clue something is potentially happening.

Yeah it's a tough call. I do agree that Dele doesn't fit in to this current Spurs team. But at the same time we haven't played fluid well executed attacking football for ages.

I mean imagine one year from now. Most likely we'll have a squad with much more overall quality with the likes of Reguilon and Doherty as full backs. Ndombele (Hopefully fulfilling his potential), Lo Celso, Bale, Kane. All players with amazing qualities with the ball at their feet. Surely a player like Dele would be an asset in a squad like that? Formations and how they work aren't written in stone.

So whilst I agree that selling Dele makes sort of sense. At least for me it's a tougher call than how some of you describe it.

Anyway, if he's sold it can't be to balance the books. It must be to bring in real proven quality at say CB or ST. Otherwise I don't see the point.
Agreed.

Dele isn't the type of player you sell lightly. He's a fantastic talent and when things work well he shines. He's also a big game player.

However, his weakness is that he doesn't tend to fit into a system other than one in which he floats around a CF and a playmaker is behind him.

We no longer have the midfield balance of DM, Pivot, AM or DM, DM, Pivot + AM which allowed Dele to float with Eriksen being the player to make things tick and link the mid to attack.

That platform was healthy for Dele because he could rely on his instinctive abilities to perform in the role. In a 4-3-3 that focuses on wingers and a more interchangeable midfield he struggles to find his place.

You could move him in the front 3 but hes not for the pace with the ball and he'd likely be invisible.

It's a massive shame if he goes, but at the same time I'd rather have all the pieces elsewhere. We already have match winners, we need better balance elsewhere.

Alli for Dias & Weghorst/Eduoard gives us greater strength elsewhere.

My concern is the HG issue. If we plan to replace Dele that means we need a HG player and that immediately makes the links to Lingard plausible. I don't like that.

I'd suspect that's because nobody will pay what we'd want for him.

Hope this is true. We need more options not buying one and getting rid of another. We have already lost Eriksen. The more talented players we have the greater our chances.

Just don't see why they'd sell him to us, even if we offered 40-50. A 20+ goals a season striker is like gold dust for a team like So'ton and it would be almost impossible for them to replace him even for that money. They'd also hugely increase their chances of getting relegated, which is worth a lot more than 40-50 million in the long run.

(Plus Ings is 28 and would be far too expensive for a backup option).

Probably because they need the money?

The manager (I’m not going to try and spell his name) wouldn’t rule out him being sold a week or so ago.

Yeah. I agree. But isn’t that the job of the manager? To coach and improve players? You’re telling me that Klopp, Guardiola couldn’t get a tune out of him.

Also, name one young player Jose has improved in the last 5 years. I’ll make it easy. There isn’t one.

Scott McTominay.
Marcus Rashford

A loan would be best for all parties.

I don't understand how it helps us? A transfer makes sense as we use the money to strengthen other areas of the squad. A loan leaves us in limbo.

Yeah loan seems like a bad idea unless there's an obligation to buy. If he goes to PSG on loan and doesn't get much gametime or do very well (which I think is the most likely outcome) his value goes down, he doesn't improve and we're stuck with him. The only gain for us is that we save some money on wages in the short term when what we really need is big transfer money to strengthen the squad.

For me the issue with selling Dele isn't so much that he's irreplaceable, but that there are several players I'd be selling before him.

We have a number of pretty average, ageing, non-homegrown players who could easily be sold to raise funds (Sissoko, Lucas, Lamela, Aurier etc). Selling Dele instead of them would be a strange move for me, especially if we're going for Weghourst and Dias, two foreign players.

Agree. Selling those 4, would bring in £60-70m. They are all solid players, but each of them too inconsistent.

I think for as talented as he is, he's the most expendable of our top tier price players and if it means sacrificing him who is really quite a unique player as he's really a shadow striker not a n.o10, if that means we can bring in CB, CM and ST and switch to a 4-3-3 to have complete squad depth and balance then i'm all for it. If we keep him then we keep a very talented player who with the right attitude and in the right system can be world class on his day.

I trust in the process as this transfer window has been absolutely ruthless so far and i'm loving it, its like Jose played football manager with us before he joined and he's trying to make all the same moves. Insane amount of possible in's and outs but to be fair much much needed shake up of the squad.

This will be controversial but I think all those barring Lamela have brought more to the table over the past 2 years than Dele has.

Isn’t all the talk that he’s being offered out on loan only? Not sure how that helps us to bring in CB, CM or whatever. We’d get his wage off books but unless it’s a huge loan fee I’m not sure this is worth it massively in terms of us improving other areas.

Dele dele dele... a mercurial who produces moments of brilliance , even under Jose he has (utd away wow) sadly he just does not fit the fluid counter attacking system or Cleary have the work ethic required . Injuries have hampered him and he is still young so lots of room for improvement

The only issue with a sale for me is how good can he actually become .. mourinho made a mistake with de Bruyne as well
