I reckon we'll hear from the club that Lamela offered his Number 11 shirt to Bale as he knows he's a club legend....when in reality it will have been forced on him. Poor Coco

Cengiz Under on his way from Roma to Leicester apparently. No doubt if we get Bale in then we're overstocked on attacking mids.

I’m not sure if it makes much difference whether it’s 1yr/2yrs loan or a perm. It will all be in the detail anyway. I’m sure DL would insist on an option if it’s 1yr. It all about PR for both clubs, Madrid don’t want to admit to paying his wages and we won’t want to say we are paying him obscene wages. They are probably haggling over how they spin the story.

I don't think he can take #11 as we already submitted our squad numbers?

I would like to see him take #3. That's a special number for him too.

I think they can still be amended although I may be wrong?

Adebayor for instance changed from 25 to 10 after first match season we made him permanent as VDV (who had just changed to it) left.

Not sure if Lamela would want to give it up though or if worth potential upset, although 11 would be best number for him.

I was thinking 16 as his first number for us and Regullion would have 3, but footballers don’t always follow the logic when picking lol.

9 I would imagine is still being left for a hopeful centre forward although would also be a good number for Bale (and he wore it the pre-season he switched from 3 to 11 for us).

Can normally change them up to the end of the window iirc

Not for Europa League though - that's why Lamela wore 33 in that duing his first season but 11 in the league.

I also said this in the Lamela thread, but doesn't matter how much we love and want Bale back, Lamela should not be made to give up his number #11 for him.

Say if City showed an interest etc

This is nagging me too. What if he does really well but we as a club don't get Champions League. If we only have him on a year's loan and a City come in with mega bucks then can we arrange another year? And then after 2 years once his contract at Madrid expires, we won't have the luxury of getting his wages subsidised...

Even if it's a perm though, his contract at Madrid runs out in 2 years. How do we afford to keep him then unless he takes a massive wage cut?

I view it thus:

We don’t know how this will pan out once the deal is complete. (If!)

But. Even if it turns out to be a damp squib, as long as he does something special in a Spurs shirt again it’ll be worth it.
I’ve wanted to see him back since he left. He is my all time favourite Spurs player. Sorry, Harry. He was pure electric.

I just want to witness one more moment of sheer brilliance from him in our colours.

That’d make me happy.

I don’t care about the wages. I don’t care if it’s a loan.

I just want to see Gareth Bale play for us again and I want to get goosebumps when one of these moments happens. Even if it’s just one.

It’d be totally worth it, and I’d love it.

Well we don’t have Champions League now and he’s supposedly told United not to bother even though they were offering better terms.

He’s very clearly made an effort to play specifically for us, unless something wild happens he's not just going to casually bin us off next season.

good god. Worry about that shit later.
First get him here. The rest can sort itself out over time.

That would be part of the detail, he would essentially be taking a massive pay cut in that scenario, but would also be 33 by then.

He will lift the cloud that's been hovering above us since the CL final in my opinion. That's how huge it is. He will lift everyone around him. Imagine how much more you'll see from Son & Kane for example.

It's got me super excited, when just 3 days ago I was sitting there watching us lose to Everton and wondering when the season would end.

In an exclusive interview with BT Sport’s Jake Humphrey, Real Madrid’s world-record signing said he hoped Spurs supporters could understand why he chose to leave.

“The fans have been unbelievable with me,” Bale said. “They’ve supported me through the bad times and believed in me and I’ll never forget the great European nights at White Hart Lane. They were amazing.

“Tottenham will always have a place in my heart. I hope the fans still love me even though I’ve moved on. I hope they understand that obviously Real Madrid is a massive, massive club and that they respect my decision.

“From the moment Real Madrid put the offer in it was obviously difficult. [Tottenham] was somewhere I felt so comfortable and so happy - it was difficult to leave but when Real Madrid come in it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

“I love all the Tottenham fans and hopefully one day, you never know, I could be back.”
