Thinking about Lo Celso first few appearances off the bench, etc, he was a little subdued. It is not until the last month has he truly adjusted and shown us what he can do. So, i think patience is key with Gedson. We won't see who he really is as a player for another year, due to his age and lack of PL experience.

I've always theorized that the hardest positions to adjust to for foreign players coming into the PL was midfield, attacking midfield, wingers. That's not to say other positions also have their difficulties in terms of adjustment. But the engine room is where the game moves at it's fastest. And it really takes a beat to get used to the hyper quick and aggressive tempo. Some make the change fairly quickly, and others it may take a bit more time. Especially the younger ones.

I got a good feeling about this kid. But also realize it may be a while before he starts to truly shine.

Found it hard to impose himself in any way. In the first game against Norwich I actually thought he drifted into areas that were difficult for him to receive the ball. Against Southampton he hassled well and had good energy but that was about it really. Too early to tell as we haven't seen him express himself yet and once he does I'm pretty sure we'll see a completely different player.

Would be good to see him in a few home games where we'll have more general control of the game and where he can have more touches with the ball and more time with it. Just needs time to feel more comfortable and confident IMO, which is to be expected. Can't expect too much of him too soon.

I cannot even remember him coming on against Norwich, but he had a good cameo against Watford.

Yeah he had a couple of touches but nothing significant. Looks almost a little shy of the ball but that will change in time.

I thought he looked sharp against Watford, for the very little that we did see of him then.

He did his job really for this game, harsh to say he was anonymous given how we set up. When he was on the pitch, especially first half, it was clearly the plan to cede a lot of the ball, drop deep and invite them forward, and then do them on the counter (which worked perfectly up until the dogwank finishing). For the cm2 that meant sitting and screening in front of the defence and doing a disciplined job, they/he did that.

Good players are able to show their ability even if they appear for a cameo or still adapting to the rigours of the premier league. Lo celso showed that, eriksen showed that, and lucas as well. You could tell from the way they ran, their touches and turns. Even if they seemed lost at times, you could see their abilities.

Gedson, on the other hand, i did not see that in that match against soton.

I might be wrong though, so feel free to have a go.

I’m with you. Saw nothing, not a hint. But I might be wrong too!

I don’t agree - all players need to be given a year to adjust. Henry was useless when he went to Arsenal.

Young, new league, new teammates, new country, hasn't played loads of minutes in months...patience. GLC was a 40mil signing banging in goals and running the show against Barca, barely made an appearance for 4 months. Gedson has been chucked in at the deep end with our form.

Pulling this over from the transfer thread, because it’s the best thing I’ve seen on him and everyone should watch.

Really think there’s a ton to like about this transfer. According to the video, he was more highly touted coming out of the academy than Joao Felix and after a solid start in the first team was misused as a right winger when Benfica replaced their manager. The video further adds that the deeper he plays in central midfield the better he’s been, exactly what we need.

Plus he already speaks English, his family lives in London, and we have the best Portuguese manager in history. And if he doesn’t work out in 18 months, we can bin him off. No harm, no foul.

I thought I would quote this video in case people missed it the first time. He says that gedson is at his best when breaking from deep in central midfield and way less effective when on the flank (as JKendall points out).

Are there people actually writing him off already or saying he "hasn't shown anything". Christ almighty, seriously what is wrong with people, he has just started his first game, in a new league, new language, new team, new team mates, new manager and new fans.......! Lets give the guy a bit of a chance eh!!

I bet the people saying this are the same who wrote of Lo Celso, and they are probably now frigging themselves about how good he is!

It's not a new language for him, he's fluent in English. The rest I agree with though - This lad is going to be great.

There's always this competition of who can "call out" a new signing first. And if the signing goes south they can claim that they have some superior football knowledge / "the balls" to call out this obvious failure of a signing before anyone else.

That's really the only plausible explanation for writing off a young player who's hardly laced his shoes before he's called a failure. It's truly pathetic and sad.

Fantastic cameo tonight. Some great ball retention and one touch passes, as well as some flicks and tricks thrown in there. Excited to see how this kid does as he settles in.
