I do agree that we need quality in depth but I think comparing to City is a bit misleading. They're a completely different business model and can afford to have 3 players they bought for 50m+ sitting on the bench, whilst I'm not sure we have that luxury. I'd love for that not to be the case tho, and think Ndombele and Lo Celso would push us right behind the top 2.

Well, you're right we don't necessarily need 9 attacking options etc.

But what we do need is far greater depth. This season we had to dig deep and rely on Llorente, who doesn't fit our way of playing, even if it did help us get to the CL final. We even had to bring in Nkoudou and Janssen to help out, just to make up numbers. Sure, we had injury issues that bordered on ludicrous but our attack has definitely stuttered this season.

Imagine Eriksen goes, that leaves us with Kane, Alli, Son, Lucas and Lamela vying for 3/4 spots - it's not enough to sustain a challenge on four fronts, as two injuries puts everything into chaos. Even if Eriksen stays we are a couple of injuries away from relying on the same group of attackers game in game out. It's not healthy.

Something like Lo Celso, Clarke and Gomez gives us serious strength in depth and should prepare us for inevitable injuries - remember Kane has had a long lay off in each of the last three seasons.

With all due respect my pal...that midfield would get torn to absolute shreds. Ndombele is not a defensive midfielder.

Ndombele has played as the deepest/screening "defensive" midfielder for both Lyon and for France. Just last week he played as the deepest midfielder, breaking up play and distributing, while Pogba ran around without having very little defensive responsibility. He's actually pretty comparable to Fernandinho, who often is tasked with sitting deep for Man City as they dominate possession.

Every other comment on that video is "great pass Lo Celso", "great touch Lo Celso" or "Lo Celso again."

Nicaragua do not look like strong opposition, mind you.

Tottenham to make improved Giovani Lo Celso transfer offer after Real Betis reject bid

Mauricio Pochettino's Tottenham had an initial bid rejected for the Argentine midfielder but will not explore other options

I think i'm right in saying that ITK's have previously said that the press are normally a few days behind goings on when it comes to transfers, so I'd expect to hear about details of our new offer, and whether it's been accepted/rejected later this week

Yes he did but also he mentioned somewhere else that some 'fan favourites' might be moved on. I think it was possibly in conversation on here.

No-one can find any mention of it using the search function so it was either on twitter, or he's deleted the post.

Maybe Lamela? With his tackling and work rate Lo Celso seems like a replacement for Lamela more than anyone

Maybe. Although JJ also said Poch rates Lamela higher than Moura so who knows ??‍♂️
I think he meant that Poch prefer type of player Lamela is. Lo Celso is more like Lamela than Moura. Keeping Lamela and selling Moura would be something inexplicable.

A healthy Lamela is a better player than Moura. Moura is all straight ahead, Lamela has much more to his game.

The issue is he’s never healthy.
Lamela is a better fit for the high energy press and is more creative but Lucas is more decisive and can stretch defences.

Peak Wanyama > peak Dier, but I think Wanyama is far less likely to ever reach that level again. Plus Dier can play in multiple positions.
Agreed but I would say that Dier is better alongside Sissoko than Wanyama. We just dont pass the ball so well with Wanyama and Sissoko together and end up going long ball. Wanyama doesn't do so well alongside Dier either because they're both too defensive, so it only really leaves Winks as a good partner for him now that Dembele is gone. For that reason and the history of injuries I would sell Wanyama. I just dont think he fits into our midfield anymore

He should be considered a replacement for Dembele

It was in the Summer wishlist thread... Remember seeing the post. We would be surprised at the players who light be moved on. Something to that effect.

The most Betis have ever received for a player is £27m. Now suddenly they want three times that for a player? £50m is even huge for them, I doubt we will go too much higher than that and I suspect they will be very tempted at that figure.

I’m not sure that’s overly relevant. Spurs’ record sale before Bale went for £86m was Berbatov for £32m. United’s before Ronaldo went for £80m was Beckham for £25m.

A healthy Lamela is a better player than Moura. Moura is all straight ahead, Lamela has much more to his game.

The issue is he’s never healthy.

It depends on what you value most. They are different players with different attributes. Lamela's attitude, work rate and willingness to throw his body around are second to none on the team. And when he does that, he does affect the field players psychology when he works the way he does.

Moura's ability is to stretch the field creating room for players behind him. His dribbling is also a bit of an enigma. He can do deft touch, deft touch, deft touch, brick touch. Hence, he scores goals like his second at Ajax or lose the ball in relatively open space. He too makes his teammates better as defenders have to be aware of his movement and that gives other players the tiniest amount of extra space.

I hope to high heavens we don't lose Moura as you can't teach speed. He would be an amazing player to bring off the bench as is Lamela. And if he continues to improve under Poch, well then, that's a dangerous player.
