My heart broke for him tonight. Jan is everything that was good about Spurs the last decade. He encapsulates a period of renewed hope and genuine on and off the field growth for the club. It felt like the end of an era tonight looking at Jan, or at least the end of a chapter. The next one has some living up to do. Because I wouldn't change a thing about the last 10 years of it had ended with us lifting the CL. It's been a weird, long, immensely enjoyable and emotional journey and Jan has been here for every step of it. Club Legend for me.

Would love to see him lift the FA Cup this year. It would be really fitting.

As I've said though, it's not nice to see but I don't get why we're still giving him any minutes. Every game he plays is a game less for Sanchez at centre back, or Tanganga, or Dier, or Foyth, or the next academy kid off the rank. If they get more minutes we/Jose might learn a bit more about them, during what is still a transitional period for us, where we shouldn't be afraid of testing the options we have, and if they have a future or if we need to buy. With Jan, we unfortunately know what the answer is.
Stone fucking cold man. Stone. Cold.

Heart broken today.
He’s only 32, pretty healthy...what happened?
Really hope that he can turn it around, or just a msg from Jose to push him play better.
Don’t want this to be his end.

One of (if not) my favorite players over the last decade, broke my heart seeing him sitting on the bench like that.

saw his reaction on tv, said to my brother 'He looks like a guy who's just realised his place is gonna be taken by a youngster'.

Such a shame.

Shame. Really is, but this is modern football. Jan has rapidly declined over the last 6 months. He's slow and has become a roundabout. Does not cope with the high tempo and intensity of the PL. Imo there's a reason for him not being given an extension of his contract.

I have nothing but respect for Jan. he could have easily just fucked off during the mess that was that AVB/Sherwood period. He was one of the best in the business at the time and could have walked into any big club. But he stuck by us and he deserves something back from us in return. Even if that is just letting him go for one last big payday somewhere before he hangs them up. I hope we can win the FA Cup to send him off into the sunset with.

100% deserves a testimonial at some point.

I'd give him a 12 month extension.

But I'm a soft touch, & I guess that would only hold back foyth further who is highly promising

I felt so sorry for him last night. Think how humiliated he must have felt walking around the perimeter of the pitch when he had been subbed. So sad. He has been a great player for, and servant of our club, but it looks as if he can no longer do it at this level. If anyone deserves our thanks and a testimonial it is him.

Stone fucking cold man. Stone. Cold.

Some see it as a competition to show how tough and manly they are. “No room for sentimentality in football” as if they’re these ball-busting winners in their own lives with Mamba mentality. It’s so insecure to act like you don’t get emotionally attached to players - either you’re putting on a facade, or you’re a sociopath imo

FWIW - I don’t think Jan is past it. I think he’s just too desperate for a new deal and it’s making him play below his usually impeccable standards. Hope he reconnects as he’s still the most naturally talented defender we have. Favourite Spurs player ever for me, idc.

Which is ironic, seeing as most football fans seem to be such delicate, sensitive little flowers.

I’m clearly so soppy. Man that breaks the heart. Wish some of our other players would care so much. He is a real club legend. Roll Royce quality. If he can somehow retrieve his high quality performances that would be great. If he continues to get selected and doesn’t perform, I’ll be fine with that. He deserves that respect for what he has given to our club. He’s been a joy to watch and one of the highlights over the past 7 or so years.

Exactly - at least I embrace it. The most embarrassing was when Poch was sacked and people were bragging about how little they cared. Really impressive stuff.
