Is Japhet the type of player that could take a swing at the LB position? He's fairly quick, a bit undersized for a CB, is left footed, and appears to be able to pick a pass.

I'm curious to the size of your ears
I turned my tablet up full and put the speaker to my ear - it does sound like that's what was said.
Which is good on several points as it shows Jose has been watching us for a while, and has interest in the youngsters. It also shows that he knows how to make them feel special. Imagine being Tanganga on your first training session with someone the stature of Mourinho, then he goes and says something like that about you.

Edit. Old habits die hard.

Let's hope it leads to a game or 40

What a great boost for a young lad, hopefully he plays a good part in the rest of the season.

If Jan and Toby cannot convince Mourinho of their commitment, they will be shut out and Tanganga will be beneficiary

I’d agree if it was the Jose of old.

I hope we have a new version of Jose, who gives opportunities to our younger players.
He has dropped some real clangers in the past letting good young players go without giving them a real chance.

Don’t disagree with that. What I’m hoping is that, in the last 11 months or so, Jose has realised his past mistakes and tries to approach things in a different (better) way now .

I wonder if Poch wasn't giving him much of a chance due to his contract situation. Looks a very talented player though, would love to have a new centre back come through the academy

I can understand Japhet. He is probably not interested in doing a KWP and just stay as a mascot. After the very good pre season he should have got more of a look in. Especially when you try to replace Verts and maybe even Toby. At least give it a fair go. Then Japhet would probaly think too its worth to sign a new contract here.
