Strange that we tolerate a clown at right back in Aurier but cant give a chance to an actual footballer in Foyth. The Argentine set up trust him in that position.
If Foyth is actual footballer, then so is Serge. Both make mistakes that neither should be making. The difference is, Foyth still has a chance to cut them out of his game. But that’s going to require a ton of patience with him. We dont have that luxury. He’ll be better off going on loan to a mid table side where he would get some games.

Yeah - I just can't see Mourinho persevering with Foyth long enough for it to pay off. He's so talented on the ball but his mistakes are even bigger than Aurier's and he makes them far too often to be relied upon. I know people will say "but he's still young!" and yes that's true, but our defence is already leaky AF and we can't afford to have another liability in there week in week out.

We either need to loan him out to a club that can guarantee him 1st team football, or sell him while he's still got value.

I think pre-pandemic i'd have been in the keep and loan camp, but he may now have to be considered expendable if we have to sell to buy. I think we'd have to give consideration to any offer over £20m now. Even with Vertonghen going we have 4 fairly competent alternative centre backs and whilst he might become a world beater in a few years I think we could put the money to use to get a better balanced squad overall. I guess he's not going to become that world beater here anyway if he's not going to play over those 4 so what's the point in keeping him?

Rumors he might be loaned out to Leeds United next season, though the source is (probably) dodgy

Perfect move. Playing for leeds will be very high pressure. Has a compatriot coach. We know he is classy, just get out and play every week. (y)

Yep. Should of happened 2 years ago. Yet another player held back in his development through lack of playing time.
He was playing a decent amount last season and was going to get good game time this season under Poch but got hurt. Then Mourinho gave him one game and the rest is history.

I’m quite confident that after one season at Leeds this guy is going to make himself a starter here. There’s talk about Godfrey, White and Tanganga as future top class-CB’s and Foyth is better than all of them imo, he just need to get game time and he needs to be able to make mistakes, get picked again and develop.

He has some similiarities with Pontus Jansson who exceled under Bielsa as well.

Even if he won't make starter here his value will be much higher, that would be fantastic for everyone.

I hope this is true.
This kid just needs a chance to play for a full season in his preferred position. Let him make some mistakes and learn.
It could either be the making of him, or will show that he's a half-decent CB, best suited to a mid-table team.
But from the times I've seen him playing well, he's often looked to be a different class than those around him.
Just needs game time and experience to reach that next level of consistency.

I am on the Foyth train but damn I really forgot how poor he was in the 4-2 derby last season @ the Emirates.

I genuinely don’t understand how people forgive or forget Foyth’s mistakes but jump all over mistakes by other players.

I think it's because he has so much natural talent. There was some absurd stat at some point that showed, despite having only played about 200 minutes, Foyth had by far the most successful take ons of any defender in the entire league (or something along those lines anyway). I reckon people are are more likely to forgive him as they believe he could become something truly special.

Personally I think that, even in spite of his limited game time, he shouldn't be making so many game-changing errors. In all my time as a Spurs fan I honestly can't think of a single player who I'm more consistently worried about giving away a penalty. This is still as true now as it was in his first start.

That's not to say he can't turn it around, but I do believe we can't afford to give him the consistent run of games he needs to step up a level. I really really hope the Leeds loan comes off as that would be perfect for him.

i think it’s because he’s young and still has had very little playing time at this level. You need playing time to see if the derps can be worked out. We really crippled his development by not loaning out sooner. He should have been in the Championship or at one of the smaller top flight Spanish/Italian sides the last two seasons.

Contrast that with Serge who’s been a top flight regular for 10 years and still makes the mistakes of a 20 year old, and I think that’s the contrast.
