Hope that, if he goes anywhere, it's a loan only. This lad has plenty of potential and we shouldn't be writing him off at 21.

This. Hopefully a Prem loan until the end of the season to see how he copes with the league every week given a run of games.

He's good but the fact some people call Sanchez thick and rash and don't level those same accusations at Foyth is weird. Thus far, he has shown flashes of Jan and flashes of Chiriches. I hope he stays and develops, but he's not exactly pulled up trees here.

He is such a special case. Obviously a real baller , talented and has everything what you need, but on the other side at times clumsy, reckless and a danger in your own penalty box. He needs to get that out of his game. Probably he needs a season on loan in the Premier League or we should try him in positions where his errors are not so costly.

I wouldn't mind him replacing Serge as RB and play Sess on the other side as a LWB.

Would be mighty pissed off if we sold Foyth but not overly surprised with Mourinho in charge. He likes CBs of the knuckle dragging variety.

I do wonder where Foyth ultimately sees himself; RB or CB?

Nevertheless, we should not be jettisoning young, full international talent when it's clear a changing of the guard is upon us.

He needs to play. That’s the only way to see if he can get the derps out of his game. He isn’t going to play here, unless we make an institutional decision just not to worry about results the rest of the way and let him get a bunch of 90s in (provided he can keep himself from red cards).

If we aren’t going to do that, get him out on loan ASAP or sell him but with a reasonable buyback clause.

I'm always reticent to criticize young players, especially CBs as they develop late but I don't really see it with Foyth. He's not a particularly impressive athlete, he can't defend without fouling or grabbing, and while he's ostensibly good on the ball he's often suicidal in possession and thinks he's a way better dribbler than he actually is.

Tanganga is over a year younger and for me has been way more impressive, I wonder if the club is thinking the same thing. Also, considering Levy's insistence on selling before buying I wonder if shifting Foyth out is a prelude to Mourinho being able to bring in a CB he wants.

He's just not a Mourinho type. He will always have that drive, to drive the ball forward, take players on and such. He's also known for mistakes, and Mourinhos absolutely hates that, already said it after recent game. Therefore he can't be a Mourinho CB.

Agree everything here. I think he's good, but I just can't see anything special about him. Is it because he has establish the RB role in Argentina national team that got the rave?

I really don't think both Poch and Mourinho wouldn't wanna blood some youngsters given the chance. But if the establishment still plays even in lesser game or in winning position, the youngsters are probably still not ready to step up. After all the coaches see them everyday in good and bad compared to us looking at them emotionally of some causes and from some glimpses of brilliance.

Footballers are working humans too. In some organisations no matter how talented certain employees are, they will never stay for long if they just couldn't fit in with personality or culture.

In any case, Foyth is a capable squad player for me if he's willing to bide his time, but no great loss either if he's sold for good money.

Forget overlaps like normal full backs, Juan Foyth loves an underlap.

I mean, he only does it because he is physically incapable of performing an overlap bless him (he just hasn't got the engine).

Imo he’s overrated on here, I just don’t see what others see. Been here 2 years now and has barely played, which must be for a reason. When he does play he always seems to make a mistake, either leading to an opposing goal, giving away a penalty or getting sent off.

totally agree - always liable to mistakes, seems lightweight for the EPL and obviously Jose has made his mind up. If the latter is true, good to see Jose backed if he’s said he wants to cash in

Last time Iooked every single one of our defenders has been making mistakes every game.
He's played 33 times how many mistakes have you counted?

Would still like to see him played in DM sometime. He's mobile, has decent awareness and defo has the ball playing ability. Any mistakes wouldn't be as harshly punished either

He has no pace and is lightweight, why are people thinking he can be a DM with perhaps just some good passing?

He should go and play football. Young centre backs need regular game time, it's a position where it takes time to develop the nous, positioning and smarts and to cut down on the mistakes. We see also how Sanchez looks when he comes in and out of the team for instance. As another example, at Foyth's age even Ledley was very erratic and making cup final costing cock ups, it's the position where it takes the longest time to develop I think and you have to be getting matches to do that.
