I think we need to keep in mind he’s a baby in CB terms. Until CBS are 26/27 they make mistakes. When Foyth is that age (as with Sanchez) he will be immense. However, not many CL teams have a young, first choice CBS so it’s really important we keep Toby and Jan for a few seasons more.

You can't sugar coat his mistakes. He attempted to dribble out of the back under intense pressure (one time against two players) and gave up two glaring opportunities. Those could have cost the game and the series. They were that serious and i'm guessing there were due to arrogance. Poch even said something along those lines but he said it much nicer than i did. At the same time, you have to appreciate and applaud his obvious skill and then his mentality in not wilting after those mistakes. And those that are espousing that he play CDM may be onto something. In games past, he also had a Tobyesque like ability to read where the ball was going well before it got there. When you consider his age, you really have to wonder what his upside is. He could be special. And the the Beckenbauer comparison that HW61 did is spot on. Although he probably needs to demonstrate a little more of his ability to distribute since his body of work is still small.

He’s going to be some player. Congratulations on who found him.

He is so confident on the ball and has a lot of attributes to be a really good player. Poch’s words post match are really interesting. He knows how good he is, it’s just about giving him opportunity now.

Few old boys in the crowd around me weren’t happy with him but I guess you get fans that are pretty much clueless once they’ve made their mind up on a player. Too ignorant to change it.

But at the same time he made a covering block shortly afterwards that saved a certain goal so....

From what I heard from reports is , Foyth was Poch's own scouting

There's nothing to sugar coat here.
Foyth is just 21. Yesterday was his 25th professional game ever (all levels). Considering this + him being played 1 game a month this season + CL debut with 70k+ crowd and a terrific team to play against...Foyth had a brilliant game. He is a defender, first of all - and he defends well. He reads the opponents, always seem to come up with crucial blocks, interceptions. Even aerially good this year. He did play dangerously in his own half, but only seconds before in that move, Sanchez, Lloris, Toby overplayed short pasess and ended up with Foyth. So, its not like he alone overplayed. Even seniors did the same.

I can only take positives from him. IMO, Poch is grooming him to take over from Toby - I wont be surprised if we wont buy any CB, but buy a LWB and move Davies to CB. I can really see this happening. Whatever it is, Foyth is on the way to being a world class CB IMO.

His mistakes early in the first half were symptomatic of our shape and how we were playing for the first 45. We were spaced too far apart, there was a lack of showing for the ball. Foyth got caught in these situations with little options to get out of them.

Second half we tightened up, moved better for each other, and the mistakes stopped. Foyth was class defensively all game.

His confidence on the ball is actually fucking absurd for a player in his position. John Stones is considered this outstanding ball playing CB in England, but Foyth honestly makes him look timid.

It's exciting, and at times absolutely terrifying, to watch. His career is going to be exciting, one way or another, to watch unfold.

As soon as he learns when and when not to do Cruyff turns on the edge of his own box, he's going to be some player. He's so good I'm confident we can absorb the loss of Toby next season fairly painlessly.

Have to echo the positivity. Once he cuts out the mistakes, and I'm sure he will, because they are easy mistakes to cut out, he will be immense. It's not like he is making mistakes from wrong positioning, or just bad defending, it's just over playing or a lack of experience.

His ability on the ball is frightening but he has also impressed me with his defending. Even that first half chance for Dortmund which Lloris saved from the header. Foyth got something on it which slowed the pace of the ball. He also stopped Sancho's cross with great positioning.

I think he is going to be a super star.

He is a quality highly skilled footballer as well as a good defender. Compare him say to the Leicester CDs who are good defenders but nothing compared to him as footballers.

I think last night reinforced my belief of him as RB in a 4. He was effectively playing there last night. Had Pulisic in his pocket pretty much all night. I think he could be a very similar player to Pavard.

He is going to be pure class in another year or two.

Hard to believe he's only played 25 professional games.

Think this is premature to be honest. He has had moments of class and composure, but he's also made some big mistakes in most games he's played. He has a very bright future but I think next season we'll take a step back if Toby goes. Sanchez has played far more football and he still makes mistakes, neither are ready to seamlessly take Toby's place without effect.

I think in 2-3 years if they both stay then we'll have a world class pairing, but could be a rocky road defensively up to then.

Completely agree. Foyth's performances seem to veer between clear MOTM and massive liability, sometimes within the same game. I like how Poch is gradually easing him in, and he's more than capable cover, but he doesn't quite look ready to take Toby's place yet.

I wonder if the best option might be to replace Toby with an older, more experienced head who wouldn't completely overshadow Foyth and could help us gradually ease him into the first 11. Wouldn't be a very typical Poch/Levy signing though.

I think there will be a transition period, but he's improving every game. He pocketed Zaha against Palace, when we were massively exposed defensively in the second half. He was also exceptional last night, one early mistake aside.
