I can understand the frustrations with Lucas but what these stats don't tell us is his overall contribution to the team via his defensive work.
No-one can have missed his numerous tackles and interceptions recently . He really is good at getting the ball back . He also has a very high jump when challenging for headers .

Son is top of your table and has done well , but is it only me and Hugo who are angered by his lackadaisical attitude to challenging defenders for the ball..jumping for headers , defensive duties in general ?

Agree with this. He's not always effective with his end-product but his energy is always good and as you've said, he contributes well in a couple of ways you wouldn't expect from a player of his style and stature.

'undoubted talent and amazing attitude' but no quality?

Very badly worded by me tbf. What I meant to say was, he has a great attitude and his ability isn't in doubt, however what he produces on the pitch is not of the same quality.

It's his decision making - it's very hit and miss. His crossing is wank too

He's got talent, it's about how best to use it and help him with his flaws.

I'd like to help, but I can't...for the avoidance of doubt

Everything about him screams 'supersub'. Ironically the only game he unquestionably should have started was the Champions League final.

I think decision making is one of our biggest weaknesses.

Aurier is guilty of this defensively and when he gets into good attacking areas.

Lamela holds onto the ball too long.

Kane and Son can both be too greedy and don't look for the easy assist when they have a chance of a harder shot.

Dele slows the game down too much.

Moura is too head down and dribble.

Winks plays it too safe at times.

Even Sissoko will look to pass when he has a goalscoring opportunity (think this is down to confidence though)

Contrast this with Man City and Liverpool (except Salah) and you can see why we don't create enough, don't keep possession and concede too many goals.

Totally agree. Painful to watch sometimes

I agree, but this is where coaching comes in.

Pochettino wanted the team to play a certain way, we played that way for a very long time, normally with success. New manager comes in and wants something different. Attacking is so different, so much wider, under Poch the front players all play very close to each other, it's very different now. It'll take time.

But all these things are absolutely coachable.

Moura should of started where he finished after the restart. Why the fuck he was on the wing is anyone's guess

For some reason Jose seems to love him! To me he just isn’t good enough barring when he is on one of his hot streaks which he hasn’t been for a good 12 months now. Very much living off that night in Amsterdam.

For Christ’s sake why can’t we just start Bergwijn.
I don't get it. SB has the main strength you want from a wide player...end product whether that is a cross, pass or shot. Lucas didn't do too much today but he had a strong finish to the season and deserved a start today but somehow we need to integrate SB in the side somewhere.

Someone said in the team thread that he was going to but got sick and so ended up on the bench.
Doubt it, Jose loves Lucas and I understand why, he works incredibly hard and has brilliant moments and good games but he feels like a 6/10 player across the course of a season, he’s just not consistently at the standard we would like. His output in particular is simply nowhere near good enough. He might hit the odd nice pass and complete a nice mazy dribble but he doesn’t contribute towards goals at all. Surely Jose can see this, SB has a higher ceiling and should start more often.

Honestly never ever ever disliked a player as much he just does nothing but then suddenly in the 70th minute he will go on a run beat 4 players and you will think wow what a player!

He is literally Theo Walcott

I've said my part on Lucas many many times over the last 2 year's now.

I don't think we are in a position to replace him right now, however. Bergwijn should certainly be nudging him out the first 11 as he just has more to his game and could also become a much more consistent performer if trusted.

I would have sold Lucas last summer and brought in Grealish while his stock was really high.

I like Lucas' personality, think he's a very humble and respectful person and hes a decent squad player. However we will never get back to back performances from him and when you see some of the other wingers out there who can maintain performances and show more intelligence it does make you wonder.

A day like today and Lucas should have performed, he has no excuses like some of the others but yet again he fails to spark the team.

How can a player run around so much and work so hard but generally create so little

Absolute headless chicken most of the time.

So much ability but you’re just pulling your hair out watching him 70% of the time

Definitely Jose’s lovechild
