Regardless of whether it was Spurs not developing them properly or the lads themselves not being as good as we hoped they'd be (or a combination of both), it's a real disappointment to see both Edwards and Onomah go from stars at youth levels to players who have a long journey ahead of them if they ever want to play first team football for a decent club playing in the top-flight.

If we're comparing bad football careers mine was pretty lame too. One game as a stand in left back for Wraysbury Village FC in about 2011. Think I skewed a clearance from a corner in to my own net.

Not sure why I wasn't invited back.
Haha can't think. Imagine the meltdown on the Wraysburymmunity match day thread - you must have got some abuse!

Just noticed that Bostock is now back in England on loan at Forest so there is always hope with the right attitude.

i guess so, well if we ignore the 28 games out of a possible 34 that he played last season anyway.

Anyone will find games if they go low enough I guess. Norwich jacking him in told us a lot.

Hopefully he gets his act together and realises it isn’t go to be handed on a plate to him.

His boyhood club?

Strange no club in England wanted him. Must be more going on than we know.

He trained with someone like Brentford, and they said no, so quite the fall from grace if true.

nope ...
Jack Pitt-Brooke just said this about Edwards in a Q&A on The Athletic:

It's been a frustrating window for Edwards. He went on trial at Brentford but then he got a hamstring injury and had to go back to Spurs for rehab. Brentford nearly signed him but it didn't happen. Then there was more Championship interest at the end of the window but that didn't happen either.

All this speculation and guesswork about how we handled him and how his mind works is completely avoiding the fact that he just isn't that good. Its easy to look exciting playing 17 year olds when you are quick and have fast feet but as we saw when you don't add anything to that and go up against grown men you get caught out and shown up, and thats exactly what happened last year in a division that at times is about League One quality.

How exactly did he get shown up last season?

By looking incredibly average in a poor team, by spending every game running down blind alleys and then not knowing what to do once he got there, if he ever got the ball in the first place. He looked like a youth player plonked in a men's team, he just never even hinted at having the tools to play at a higher level.

The problem is fans are still basing their opinion off of watching him run rings around kids four years ago, not the player he is now. I think ive written the phrase 'I'd love to be proved wrong and he kicks on' about him more than any other player ever but so far he never has and i haven't been unfortunately.

Would be interesting to know a ballpark figure of what the Edwards fee might have been, given Liverpool seemingly selling Ryan Kent for £7m today. Who ever is responsible for arranging their outgoing transfers really is the best financial operator in the game currently IMO.

Edwards was repeatedly talked up as the most talented player we've had come through our ranks in a long time, so would be good to know how his sale stacks up against the money that our competitors are earning when they sell youth players who are deemed surplus to first team requirements.

I think that's the issue for some of these kids - standing out against other kids is far easier than standing out against men.

we got next to nothing apparently but the fee is weighted towards performance related add-ons, as well as a 50% sell on clause. vitoria have set his release fee at 15m.

Any other players at Excelsior that caught your eye last season?

The Pro Edwards people on here are crazy. Joining a second rate Portuguese side and 1700 minutes in a relegated Eredivisie Football Club are being spun as positives.

No criticism of him is allowed and it means despite all evidence to the contrary our Academy sucks.
