Has a knack of winning aerial duals in attacking situations that keep the attack going nicely...

Now just to coach him to direct those headers on to the back of defenders with a hope of catching their arm.

Tottenham defender Matt Doherty has been won over by Jose Mourinho’s sense of humour following his summer arrival.
The Republic of Ireland right back made the switch from Wolves a month ago and says that the persona Mourinho presents publicly is not the one inside the dressing room.
“From the outside, you just see the interviews, see him in the media and on the sidelines,” Doherty said ahead of his side’s Europa League playoff with Maccabi Haifa.
“But you don’t know him, you don’t realise the sense of humour that he has, the bond that he has with his players.
“In terms of that, I was pleasantly surprised. Before I even signed, I had a little bit of contact with him and his sense of humour is very good, he can have a joke with you.
“He made me feel incredibly welcome as I was signing. So a lot of different things. And obviously the stuff he does on the training pitch is exceptional.
“So it’s great for me to be able to learn off him and find out what he thinks I need to do to improve my game and play under him. It’s been a pleasure.
“Once I knew there was interest, it was pretty straightforward that I wanted to come to Tottenham and play for Tottenham this season. Fortunately for me, it’s managed to happen.
“But we were just talking and he would send me a video of the changing room saying, ‘The changing room is waiting for you’, and stuff like that.
“He sent me a picture of the top. Just nice little things like that, that he didn’t have to do. I have to say the club’s been exceptional since I’ve been here. Not just him but general staff.

“When I came here, people tried to help me settle in, find places to live, etc. They’ve really gone above and beyond so it’s made the experience really, really top class.”

Nice touch by Jose. Also, he was unlucky not to score against Everton and to get that assist against Southampton for Kane's overturned goal. Really excited to have fullbacks who can score, assist and make smart decisions.

Obviously through no fault of his own, but it is quite ironic that he’s now conceded one less penalty than Serge “penalty waiting to happen” Aurier in their respective Spurs careers

Can’t believe the audacity of him to have arms

From what I have seen so far he's a steady defender that produces a threat up front. I don't know what else you could ask for.

I think that abotu sums it up for me. Aurier is more dynamic and more attack minded i think,. Aurier does tend to find himself in space a bit more and perhaps thats because of the lop sided formation whenever he plays.

Got to be back in for the next league game surely?

I would say.

Aurier had his chance and once again just shows his shit mentality, it’s all well and good being good one game but spurs have had enough players that are good one game and shit the next.

Players need to play well ALL the time.

I think Jose was right to start Aurier this game as he had shown some competition at right back improved him, but then went back to same old so enough is enough.

Needs to be moved on and another right back bought in to compete with Doherty.

Shows how shit out recruitment is as both Aurier and Sanchez were bough in after that sexy 16/17 season and bother have been a step down from what we had.

What did he do wrong today to warrant being dropped?

What did he do today to warrant not being dropped? ??

Being serious though he wasn’t the worst but we need a mentality change at the back and at the moment he is one of the ones we can actually freshen up.

Personally I don’t think Aurier is the issue in the defence at all. Granted he was last season but he’s actually been solid defensively. I’ve seen no proof yet to suggest Doherty can defend as good let alone better than Aurier. I’d be blooding Rodon in immediately if we’re looking for changes.

Defintiely Roden straight in, thought that even before today.

Not to derail too much but Roden has been described as someone who just loves defending.
