He defends with intensity and he is not afraid of receiving the ball. Kind of reached a point where anything else is irrelevant. Hopefully he plays against Boro.

He might not be the answer but Id ask is it any worse than what is happening at the moment. What I liked about what Jose was doing early on was he was putting in players who fit specific positions and although it wasnt our best 11 players it was a team where everybody fit their role. With Dier out we have lost our way on that and I think putting Skipp in who might not be the best player but may give us better balance.

Anyone thinking he’s going to be the answer to our problems is going to be very disappointed
If he's the best of a bad bunch then that's still an improvement no?

Give the lad a chance and allows others to express themselves further up the pitch. At least he'll actually give a shit out there...

Fucking hell boys I know things are diabolical right now, but are we really pining for Oliver Skipp? Nothing against the lad and I hope he becomes the new Viera, but from what I have seen so far, he looks a championship player at best. I think these awful results have made people desperate. Skipp is not the answer. We need a quality defensive midfielder signing.

People just want someone able to receive and turn with the ball, neither Dier nor Sissoko can do this.

"Championship at best" you say? I've never heard us describe any of our other youth prospects as this and for it to come back and bite people on the arse...

Nobody is suggesting they would rather skipp than a new DM signing, however we are prepearing for the inevitable of us not signing anybody.

His energy levels and passing range are better than any of our other CMs (barring Ndombele's passing). I don't see what we have to lose at this stage tbh. We've tried every midfield combo under the sun and without a fit Tanguy they all look shit (and even with him we look defensively suspect).

Why not give Skippy a run of games and get him comfortable at the highest level? I really think the lad has the talent to make it so let's give him a shot.

He's only played a handful of matches for us, most of which were when he was 18 years old coming into a struggling side, or thrown into a mish-mash of a team in the cups. He was bound to be nervous and below his best - he was clearly playing within himself and trying not to make mistakes, which is natural for a young player.

However, if you've ever seen the lad play with confidence you'll know he's a different beast. He makes quick, accurate, incisive passes up the field in a way that Dier could barely dream of, and is far more tenacious and mobile than either Winks or Dier. He really isn't just some Championship turd and I genuinely think he could be a key member of our squad for the next 10 years if we coach and treat him right.

Obviously no guarantees he'll make it, but until we sign a proper DM would you honestly prefer to see fucking Dier and Sissoko stinking up our midfield for the 2nd half of the season?

The lack of a DM is obviously a problem and we have 3 options as far as I can see.

1. Buy a new DM
2. Try someone new
3. Stick with what we have

I don't think Skipp is the ideal solution but he is a far better option than continually sticking with something we know isn't working.

Let's be honest, we aren't finishing top 4 this season, and if we aren't finishing top 4 it doesn't matter where we finish in terms of midtable positioning.

At the very least Skipp will be enthusiastic, get in and about the opposition midfield, and put some tackles in and look to move the ball quickly.

We're shit as things stand with Dier, Winks, Sissoko and Ndomble, and he's at a point of in his career where he will at least learn heaps from the experience which he can take into future seasons. Dier, Sissoko, etc, aren't doing it right now, and they probably have no future with us. Ndombele is arguably the only current CM we have who should have any kind of future with us. If Skipp doesn't work out after a run of games then at least we know and we can move him on.

It's what I've been saying about KWP all this time - Unless he gets a run of games how can anyone truly know his worth to the team? The KWP ship has probably sailed at this point, it's time for him to move on - but Skipp still has time.

Can we stop thinking that any suggestion of change of tactic or personnel is the same as that being the answer to our problems.

I think a DM playing alongside Ndombele and Lo Celso with 3 attacking players is our best formation. If we play this I do not think our problems are all solved.

That's not an attitude we can work from, it certainly won't be in Mourinho and Levy's mind.
They'll look for proven players in the january market that can balance the squad we got. Before the last game we were 3rd in form under Mourinho and 3 points off 4th. This is still an open race, our rivals for 4th aren't consistently delivering neither.

Tbf KWP just isn’t at the right physical level. Think he would have played more if he was. Skipp on the other hand looks like he has the right physical tools just needs to gain experience.

Yeah it's a shame as KWP is a tidy little player and a good technician but he just hasn't got the strength and gets bullied at both ends of the pitch.
