When Skipp first played I think it was a tour game.He really impressed me with his confidence and so I have an eye on him every time I saw him play. I saw he always looked for space (even as a defensive player) and that in a flash I would see him wanting to move more forward.I wondered why he was a CB or a DM and why not a CM. He looked like he has some kind of vision.
Ive like Winks but never been a real fan of him. He is a good worker sometimes breaks up play of makes a good medium pass even longer sometimes but always feel he is conservative and is more comfortable in a more confined area while I see Skipp as always more confident and more industrious even with his limited games

I think his passing is an underrated aspect of his game. He didn't display it too much against Norwich, but in pre-season games (never the best place to judge a player, admittedly) he displayed a real ability to make quick, accurate vertical passes between the lines to teammates in a way that you almost never see from Winks or never see done well by Dier. He also loves a no-look pass and made a few really good ones.

Given we're supposed to be a counter attacking side, we desperately need players who have the ability to win the ball back but who also have the cojones to make a quick forward pass to feet.

I don't want to have a dig at Winks, but overall Skipp's skillset is so much more suited to our current style of play if you had to pick between the two of them.

Might as well play him in the CL. He can only make the team better given his energy and freedom. Others appear to be playing with a weight on their shoulders.

I did think this too, but think Jose will go a different way. Very positive week for Skipp regardless. ?

Needs to be given a run in the team now. We've been desperate for a player of his sort all season, he put in a performance that you'd hope would result in him keeping his place, and we've got absolutely nothing to lose even if he has some growing pains.

As someone pointed out, he won't hide. He'll work hard for the team and will want to show Mourinho and his teammates that he can be trusted and relied upon.

I'm not convinced he'll ever be anything more than a decent rotation player for us, but hope to be proven wrong.

I am surprised he wasn't given opportunities earlier in the season though. Sissoko injured, Ndombele struggling for fitness, Eriksen and Wanyama leaving, Alli being needed in a very advanced role to cover for Kane/Son, Dier not impressing in CDM...we've been looking light in CM all season.

Too much expected fron someone young, inexperienced and a lttle risk averse
Hopefully the fans won’t put big expectations on him then. You’d hope we’re capable of showing a bit of patience with a teenager who’s played all of seven matches worth of minutes at the senior level. We need a player in this position and he’s earned his chance.

He's honestly less risk averse than Winks who starts practically every match and he can also put in a well timed tackle.

I don't think anyone is expecting him to single handedly save our season but given his skillset and the huge hole in our midfield it seems mad not to at least give him a run in the side.

Happy to hear he's starting, I thought his legs would be feeling the Norwich game!

I wasn't comparing him to Winks. I suspect his inexperience and Mourinho's instructions that creates the impression that his first thought is to play it safe. Maybe, once he gains confidence, we may see him a wee bit more expansive with his play.

Not to mean any comparison on quality but he reminds me of a young Davids in style. I love his tenacity off the ball but he's more of a ball player than Parker was. I think the whole defensive midfielder tag is overplayed. We just need good combinations in midfield with dynamic players who can defend and attack. Skipp will partner well with Ndombele today I think but also looked good alongside Winks and I expect will next to Lo Celso.
