I really, really hesitate to say this, but despite a few fuck-ups, is Paulinho expressing a fair amount of quality today?

Yep he's been one of our top performers so far but that's not saying a lot. I have liked his pressing so far. Bring dembele in there with him and give bentaleb a break

Again? Really? Why are these threads created when he has a game that passes as acceptable

He's been decent today but it's safe to say this game is the exception rather than the rule. But this is consistent again with the only time I've seen Paulinho have a good spell or good game is when we're playing a team who can't be bothered to play or is bereft of quality, of which, Newcastle are both. Once we come up against a team who's battling, he's nowhere to be seen. Assuming he starts again next week, be interesting to see his performance against a decent team in Southampton

Happy to see him playing well, i think we miss having a "tough guy" in the team. The one who does the dirty work. I don't mean just putting in the tackles. But nipping at people's heals, tapping their ankles, out muscling midfielders...

Think we need that little bit of steel in midfield, hope he gets his chance.

What are you on mate? Hope he gets his chance? He played an average game against an awful side and you want him to have his 'chance'? His chance fucking went 1 year ago mate.

I feel he was never given a chance in the team, personally i am not convince with bentalab and mason in the center of midfield. We need the quality in there

I only saw the second half, but thought he was pretty poor - giving the ball away, never passing forward.
Dif notice however that he always made himself available, which I like, and provided a good foil to Bentaleb.

He was great first half.

MOM will do his confidence the world of good too to improve his forward play.

Over the last few seasons he's been one of the biggest pussey's in the side, don't know where the hard man myth comes from. Bentaleb and Mason offer exactly what you're saying Paulinho supposedly does

Thought he did well today (gave him MOM) but Newcastle were abject. Unfortunately, based on previous experience, I have no faith in him turning up against a decent team (like Southampton).

Maybe he needs 100 more games because 40 plus games he has played just was not enough.

He does not need more games he needs to be sold.

Players need a run of games before you can truly judge them. I know he had under previous management, but this is his first proper run of games under Pochettino and he played well today. Not just 'well for him', but overall and objectively speaking it was a good performance.

Lets see if he can build on that next week against a much tougher midfield.

I think most people forget the fact that Paulinho is not a bad player. However I feel that he does not fit our style of play. He slows down the tempo too much for my liking and is often guilty of switching off. Tactically I definitely think Mason is a better option for us (evidenced by the break that led to Kane's goal). However Mason's still too young to be playing games at the intensity that he has so for now Paulinho makes a good substitute. Having said that I want Benji to get a go.

I agree mate, but it ain't Pauli! This summer will be huge for Poch, he will bring in his players and we will see what can be done. COYS

He did well today (particularly by his own recent standards) but Newcastle were shite. Also, I thought he looked knackered second half which doesn't bode well for his long term future at the club.

Good game today, won the ball, showed a lot of energy, broke forward and kept the ball with simple passes.
Where have you been for the last 2 years?

Only looked good because Newcastle were so poor and were even weaker than us in midfield . Wasn't MOM and still not convinced.
