Serge deserves more appreciation that he gets. We've always had players in that spot that can either attack or defend, but not both.

Chances are Doherty will be no different, so no idea why people think we should palm him off like he's a liability.
As much as I think he’s a liability, I thought he came across Very well in the Amazon doc. Also played thru the period after his brother’s death.

Good egg apart from law breaking lockdown haircuts !

For UEFA purposes we have at this time 25 players who need to be registered, so any signing regardless of age or hg status would require us to make a sake. Additionally, we are at our maximum for non HGs in kind with UEFA rules therefore would need to sell one to buy one.

FYI

for 17 non HG quota that correct

however for HG
Uefa separate to another 2 categories
Club trained = trained with us at least 36 months between ages 15-21

and Associates trained = trained with another English team

so for 8 HG quota
CT shall be at least 4 from 8
That mean Max AT quota = 4

At this picture CT = 3 (Kane Winks & CCV)
Actually Rose & Whiteman also CT

but AT = 5 (RS, Harts, Doherty, Dele & Clarke)
That mean we can’t register all 5 AT and maybe should be send JC to loan out again

TBF I don’t think anyone would be surprised to see JC on loan and CCV loaned/sold. Neither are likely even to make the bench for us very often.

Yeah - we’d have Kane, Winks, Tanganga plus at least one of Cirkin/White/Whiteman for club-trained quota to be met.

There’s definitely no harm in loaning Jack Clarke out somewhere he’d be happy to go and would be playing regularly. As @golfspurs rightfully pointed out, he pretty much has to, unless maybe even Sessegnon could be the one to leave, as we’ve heard rumours of a potential loan for him too? Any sale of a non-HG player (Gazzaniga, Aurier etc.) would free up a further slot for them anyway.

I haven’t seen much of CCV to know whether or not I’d like us to loan him or just sell him for the money.

As for Aurier, didn’t Leverkusen want him? They’ve just come in to plenty of cash following the sale of key man Kai Havertz. Maybe their need for a right back is so great they could offer us a fee even Levy would be happy to accept? :D

I like Serge, but understand with Doherty here now and not long left on the contact his time here may be up, no doubt music to a large portion of our fans ears. If we get more for him than we paid for Doherty - we’re laughing.

I like Serge and his commitment, I also think his defence improved under Mourinho. However, he has not shown enough for a top 4 right back and certainly not the consistency. Love his attitude and think the fact he played so close after his brother's death shows a lot about his commitment and loyalty to the club, so there will never be any hard feelings and I will support him whilst he wears a Spurs shirt.

For me last season, it was his crossing that was the most lacking. He had all the pace and athleticism to get in the right positions and the way we set up gave him a lot of space. Sadly, the delivery just wasn't there.

If we sell Aurier, I give us about 3 months before we are back to whining over selling an RB without replacement.

If we sell Serge we probably would need to sign a replacement RB, right? I wonder if we will try and sign Dalot?

He was clearly a José signing for United.
When they signed him he called him the best young full back in Europe. I think he’s quite versatile and can play on either side and even in midfield. Still very young at 21, I suppose much will depend on whether or not United still want him.

I imagine Tanganga will be our other right back once Aurier goes.

Apparently they don't want him, but he still cost £20m or so and I can't see us spending that on a backup RB if we need to use it elsewhere

I see Everton were linked with a £10m move. I don’t think that’s unrealistic for a player that covers many positions. Is he a Mendes client?

If Foyth goes too though we’d be light at centre back with just Dier, Alderweireld and Sanchez. I’d have thought Tanganga will be playing fairly regularly at centre half. You could be right though, as we seem to be in for a centre back this window. Could just be a case of Foyth out and someone new in, Tanganga 5th choice and back up right back.

Full backs tend to need rotating and also get injured more than centre backs given the different levels of strain playing each position brings. If Foyth and Aurier both go, I’d personally be comfortable with Tanganga and CCV being 4th/5th CBs but Tanganga being 2nd RB. When you consider that Gedson is also being groomed towards being able to cover RB as well as CM, the depth is there (though I accept that the quality is debatable.

I personally both think that CCV is worthy of an opportunity while Tanganga would actually benefit from a season at full back as it would give him plenty of minutes, develop his awareness and maybe even open him a door to be first choice there long term.

All conjecture of course. We may sell Serge and Juan, bring in Kim, sell CCV too and use the other non HG slot for Diego Costa.

Don’t think “club trained quota” exists.

I think that’s purely only in Football Manager.

Wasn’t me that was suggesting it in fairness, but as an ex-Football Manager addict, I just went along with it. :D

Doherty's missed two league games in the last two seasons. He'll probably need to sit out a few more games this season given the fixture pile up.
