I like Davies, but he’s always been a downgrade on peak Danny Rose. Pretty obvious he needs upgrading if we’re serious about being good again.
Definitely a downgrade on Rose from roughly Feb 15 - December 16. But on everything else I'd suggest not, though that says more about Rose than Davies. Jan 17 to May 18 Davies was actually very good imo, and in the 17/18 was an unlikely creative source. He was actually our top assister in the league outside of Dele and Eriksen than season with 6, which also had him as the top assisting fullback in the league despite starting only 29 matches. Sadly it's a figure that neither he, nor Danny boy, has come anywhere near either before or since.

Anyway, we're very much agreed that he think he should be back up to a better player, not first choice, and that better player is hopefully this gent.

Is this the end of the lopsided fullback system?
Raises an interesting question. Many suggested last season that it was purely to accommodate Aurier, that's been shown to be untrue with the purchase of Doherty. In the end it may turn out to have been an accommodation for Davies' limitations.

Nah I don’t believe this. Ornstein is good for Arsenal news but not spurs IIRC.
He broke Dybala falling through before anyone else. When it’s an exclusive, there tends to be a bit more weight behind it than the random little things they say on podcasts etc, where Ornstein hasn’t been great for us.

How different this is from what Romano has been saying is bizarre though.

He definitely knows stuff. Said we were after an experienced option at RB and not Aarons a couple of weeks before the Doherty stuff came out.

I hope so, such a predictable system!

Agreed. No issue with it in certain games however we need to pose problems for teams on either side to give ourselves a chance of opening them up and making it easier for our attacking players. Davies just doesn't have the ability to cause the opposition any kind of problems down the left and it hinders the team/our play.

He’s more important for us than Bale would be. Such a talented player. Fullbacks are currently in my opinion the most important position to dominate, no coincidence that Liverpool dominate with Trent and Robertson, or Bayern look completely dominant since Davies has come of age with Kimmich stable as ever on the other side.

Aurier and Davies to Doherty and Reguilon is massive.

I think it's more that it gives us the option to do it either side. Have Tangana RB, and let him slot in to a back three while Reguilón bombs forward
There’s no way Doherty and Reguilon don’t both play most games. We’d need to find a system which gives us the option to play both, given they’d undoubtedly be two of our best 11.

Romano has consistently maintained that the buyback clause represented an impasse. Levy may be willing to make a one-time exception to normal operating procedure for the sake of getting in a brilliant player in the hopes that Madrid won't come back in for him and/or that he'd prefer to stay as first choice rather than be stuck behind Mendy.

Best LB we could get, he got assist for the first goal in Cup Uefa final, guy is a winner, still young and relatively cheap.

We could play a Conte/Nuno 3-4-3 with this guy in.

Lloris
Sanchez Dier Davies
Doherty -------------------- Reguilon
Hojbjerg Lo Celso
Bale?/SB ------------ Son
Kane
