Really surprised we agreed to buyback clause, never thought Levy would go for such a thing
To be honest I didn't think any decent sized club would - if he does well they will buy him back and potentially sell him straight away for a profit and we'll miss out on that despite being the ones bringing him on.

Get what you mean but it's either this or Ben fucking Davis

Least we would get £45m to buy another lb

Usually I would be against the buy back but in this case I think it's a good move. This is probably the best (or pretty much only) LB target for us this window and it was clearly something Madrid did not want to budge on a this price. If he excels and Madrid pay the price ~£40m is a decent price for a full back and we have plenty for a replacement, and we also have two great prospects in Sess and Cirkin anyway.

Even so you see the likes of Ceballos and Kovacic do well at Arsenal and Chelsea and they still didn't bring them back.

One thing I wonder is how the buy back works. If the player is super happy at Spurs can he turn down the move back? I'd expect otherwise but the way Morata was brought back from Juve suggests to me that might not be quite true.

They can take him back for the pre-agreed buyback fee, providing the player agrees.

It would be a pretty useless clause if they couldn’t

Yes.

But the ”provided the player agrees” does give Spurs the opportunity to at least try to do something about it. Slim though the chances are, but if he was really enjoying life and football and we showed how much we wanted him, it’s a possibility.

Blimey my hand‘s sore from how hard I’m clutching this straw.

For all we know the lad could love life at the club and refuse to go back. He can turn them down and isn't forced to join them again. Let's just see how this season goes.

I still think the buyback clause is, in part, tied to the Bale deal.

In any case, they have a buy back clause and a match clause. Because of the latter I suspect that the buy back clause will be very high, like way more than 45m. Also, it's not entirely true that no decent sized team would. The most high profile example I can think of is Juve buying Morata.

Apologies if this is a stupid question. If this buyback clause is active for the next 2 years, can Madrid in, say 3 weeks, decide to get him back and we can't stop them??

Is that you Levy?

His masterplan on how Madrid will pay for Bale.

I think it makes a lot of sense from our point of view, the clause is only likely to be activated if he does well - which means we would have the benefit of a top class player for a couple of years. If the clause is activated it basically means we have had a free loan for up to two years, good from a footballing and business perspective.

Signing Reguilon is on the face of it a very good move and I goes some way to showing the fans that the needs of the squad are being addressed with quality signings rather than the cheap crud of the past. It may have been an opportunity (player offered) rather than scouted, yet is a coup of a signing if we get it over the line.

I've been banging on about LB for years, and this really has pleased me greatly.

Along with Bale and Weghorst, I think there's a chance that my faith is going to be gradually restored in this transfer committee. Another CM or CAM and I think we're nearly there with addressing the primary needs of the squad.

More please ?

So we make at least 10M Euro if he gets bought back, if another club comes in with a bid for him Madrid have to match it, is the buy back clause for the full length of the contract?

Those principles are great when you are in a position of strength. We desperately need to rebalance our squad so potentially short term measures like this can be really useful if it gets us back up the table. We can always go back to those principles if we sort ourselves out.

Chill mate, he was definitely on his way to is this morning. This is usually a quiet time whilst the medical and photos are done before it’s announced.
