And, sorry, the context in which the goals were scored does count. Go to Topspurs and check their comprehensive list of top goalscorers. Their strike rate in the cups is invariably higher than in the league, and whilst penalties obviously do count, it's a fact that in some seasons you are awarded far more than in others; I don't think we had a single one the season before last. The guy had 58 shots last season; subtract the penalties, that's 27 shots per goal. He got about a quarter of his efforts on target. That's not a striker; that's a train wreck.
Strictly speaking, he may not be the worst striker we've had, but in terms of cost/expectations v. reality only Rebrov comes close.
