He may not be that (in fact he isn't) but can you really compare a £26m (or whatever figure you choose to believe) striker brought in to be our Main Man with a £2m one who was going to be fourth choice?

And, sorry, the context in which the goals were scored does count. Go to Topspurs and check their comprehensive list of top goalscorers. Their strike rate in the cups is invariably higher than in the league, and whilst penalties obviously do count, it's a fact that in some seasons you are awarded far more than in others; I don't think we had a single one the season before last. The guy had 58 shots last season; subtract the penalties, that's 27 shots per goal. He got about a quarter of his efforts on target. That's not a striker; that's a train wreck.

Strictly speaking, he may not be the worst striker we've had, but in terms of cost/expectations v. reality only Rebrov comes close.
Which figure do you believe?

Cmon now, are you saying that in the 18 months Soldado has been here he hasn't had chances?? He's had a bucket load and only managed about 3 goals from open play. He's an experienced striker, that return is abysmal. I know we are not the most fluid team in attack but we still do create chances now and then. I doubt Soldado would have even created the chance for himself like Kane did at the end of the game yesterday when he charged down the cross. Soldado isn't even getting in the positions for tap-ins which shows that he's not even anticipating. When you have a poacher you accept that they're going to be passengers in the match because they will take the one chance that comes to them, that unfortunately can't be said about Soldado.

Players like Linekar, Inzaghi were clinical poachers. Soldado is showing that he isn't. Which means we're basically playing with 10 men.
9 if you include Lamella

Bony has brilliant hold up play too which would only help our 3 attacking players behind him. Only thing is though I am surprised to see his name pop up so much as a target for us. He just signed a new contract so we'd surely be looking at £20m plus. Are we really going to spend that in January on one player?

It would be nice for teams to play us and have someone to fear for once. I don't think we currently have a player who imposes that fear factor on the opposition. I'd much rather get Bony than some fancy foreign striker from another league at the moment.

Call me deluded but I still have faith in him. He is getting better. I agree he was a passenger yesterday but we needed more in midfield and Poch swapped him. Fair enough.

Patience isn't a Spurs fans strong point and the rate he is progressing is much slower than hoped but he is progressing. Would like to see Lennon back with him again.

I seem to be the only one left keeping the faith so i'll be fucking king if he does turn it round. :D

See where you're coming from but he's starting to really hold us back.

The worst expensive flop to ever play for Spurs .... Get rid and cut our losses. Not suited to this league and never will be ...

How is he holding us back?

Main problem is now his work rate, which has totally diminished. I know you are a fan, but it's not even something you can level at him anymore. His attitude on Sunday was defeatist, and was a disgraceful attempt at a performance. That sort of negativity is what Adebayor gets pilloried for.

In many ways, I admire your stance, but in other ways, I think it's pretty bonkers.

You'll never be proved wrong, if he bangs in 15 before the end of the season, you'll tell everyone that you told them so, if he doesn't and gets carted out in January you'll maintain it was too early to make a judgment.

So his work rate wasn't great on Sunday. What if Poch told him to let Kane chase and you stay fresh and hold your position.

Just guess work of course.

His work rate hasn't actually been very good for weeks, but it's the last thing you lot have to hang on to with him, and by and large it's the least measurable attribute that a player can have.

"He works hard off the ball."

"No, he doesn't."

"Oh my fucking god, he so does."

"I don't think he does."

"He does he works so hard."

"Cant see it."

"Cant believe you don't think he works hard."

Eat. Sleep. Rave. Repeat.

Slight correction, otherwise I agree with every word.

Rebrov 15 goals 75 games
Soldado 14 goals 52 games
Gordon Durie 11 goals 58 games
Frazier Campbell 3 goals 22 games
Postiga 1 goal 24 games
Rasiak 0 goals 8 games
Andy Booth 0 goals 4 games

Just for accuracy, and because you can't just pick and choose and make shit up.

"Worst Spurs striker ever" my arse.

Alright chill out. I went with a quick wiki search and those numbers came up.

The truth is out of the magnificent 7 we signed last year only Eriksen has proved a good buy. 5 complete flops in Soldado, Lamela, Paulinho , Capoue and Chiriches. One good squad player ( especially being the cheapest ) in Chadli . The way we wasted the Bale money was nothing short of catastrophic and none of them can be sold other than at a huge loss which Levy will not countenance . Hence we are in the shit buying players on the cheap now because the cash has all been spent. The future will only be bright with a change of ownership.

Sorry but let's call a spade a spade and not keep pretending these were great signings who just need more time.

Winning post here mate. Although i would add that Lamela is a valuable squad player, not if you take into account his price, but on the pitch he does offer enough for a squad position IMO.

His confidence and belief is shot to bits. Looked a bit like Torres during his spell at Chelsea where the spark isn't there anymore and looks like he's just going through the motions.

Such a shame as I still believe he could be great for us if he can get that spark and desire back.
