Son's performance in the asian cup was really poor. Maybe lack of motivation, maybe tired. But the korean coach played him as a no.10 was a joke.

Probably frustrated after seeing that he could have taken a penalty vs Chelsea and made the difference

Says that he didn't look after himself well enough but I honestly think it's mostly because he rushed there off the back of the United game and had no preparation with his Korean teammates who'd already played three times. To add to it he says he didn't sleep, so perhaps his sleeping pattern was off and he was maybe stressing about playing well - having a country's hopes and expectations on your shoulders will be entirely different to when he plays for us.

Give him a couple of days, get him back Monday and assess him. We need him ASAP but if his body and mind ain't right, then he'd be a waste against Watford.

Spurs have demanded a tremendous amount from Son and he has given a tremendous amount over the past two seasons. Poch should give him at least a week off, maybe two, away from the club, to recharge his batteries (mental and physical). What's the point in running him into the ground - that's when injuries are more likely.

Don't think we have that luxury unfortunately.

Be quiet, he can rest when he’s injured :cautious:

I'm all in favour of him being on the subs bench, and not being called on unless we're in the brown sticky stuff. For a couple of weeks.

We didn’t give him much rest in last few weeks as we knew he was going. Bench against Watford only use if need to. Should be ok for Newcastle even if just for an hour

Could be a spot of good news. Poch says he had good energy today in training and is well in contention.

Since the end of last season:
45 matches played in total
27 for club (60%)
18 for country (40%)

Since the 18/19 season started:
38 matches played in total
26 for club (68%)
12 for country (32%)

How can that balance be justified, when the club is the one paying for the player's services and losing out every time there's a conflict?

Because he is a national icon and he chose to play in the Asian Games to successfully avoid national service.

You’d hope that balance will be very different for Son in the next few years. Hard to know what to do with him tomorrow night.

I thought playing last September for his country, and getting a gold medal exempted him?
September were the Asian Games - nominally an U23 tournament we were not required to release Son - but did so voluntarily so he could get the gold medal exemption,

January = Asian Cup
