Gotta love this shit, that report contradicts the stuff coming out of the European sources who claim the player is happy to join but fee etc etc etc

Hahahah - i'd say you couldn't make it up but ...

It never said the player doesn't want to join in fairness, it said he'd prefer to sign for the two biggest clubs in the world over us. I'd be worried for his mental state if that wasn't the case in all honesty.

For what it's worth (not a lot) the way the media is reporting this is identical to the Sanchez deal, we got wind of it, we heard talks then loads of these twitter accounts started making up agreements with Barca and then how he was choosing between Barca/Madrid and us and then we eventually got him. It is following the exact same pattern of information being thrown out.
It's definitely similar. I think it's also worth pointing out the SkySports Italy and Guardian pieces by their sheer existence forced every paper to have an updated story on Ndombele. The only people who have the most up to date information are the club's involved and I've not seen a story that definitely screams a leak from Lyon or Spurs.

I think this is less about whether the player wants to join us - all other things being equal, I reckon he would and the info generally points that way, but....

...the question is more whether he would prefer to join Utd, Juve, City, Real etc., each of those names being more of a risk as you move along them. It requires them to go in for him obviously, which remains to be seen.

Hopefully we have a degree of first mover advantage, but who knows.

ITKs suggest the player is keen. I don’t believe we would be bothering to try and agree a fee with Lyon if we wasn’t sure the player was interested.

Yup - I don't think that's in doubt actually. The question is whether he'd be more keen should another offer come in while we were still negotiating

Sounds like it could be going the way of De Jong, although I do appreciate we are a bigger draw now. Personally I don't think Madrid/Barca/City come in, they'll all have other targets.

Thing is, two out of those four teams are busy doing business with their main targets and no mention of Juve in there at all. Seems like another take from another journo using old links ...

From what I understand from hearing pros talk on the radio, clubs will tend to put feelers out to agents to see if there is any interest and you won't even bother contacting the club until they know the player is keen to join, there is a fine line between tapping up and that from what I gather.

Like with almost any player we'd ever try to sign, if Madrid or Barcelona come in from him then he'd probably choose to go there. The list of players who'd choose us over those two (or even City) is probably very, very small. Part of getting this done is reliant on those clubs not coming in for him, or us guaranteeing him a starting spot here and him being convinced by that and the Tottenham project, but i'd say that's a much harder sell when the biggest clubs in the world are throwing all their weight behind it.

Exactly. Now I know people can change their minds, like De Jong obviously intimated he was keen and then decided against joining us at the last minute, so things change and nothing is sure until they sign. I guess we just need to hope he doesn't get a better offer from a bigger club.

Yeah and the example you gave further adds to the point because that never was in the media. It was on here as ITK but not in the papers so one would assume we are quite a bit along in this transfer if talks are being reported.

We aren’t going into these negotiations without knowing the player wants to join already

Nor are we going into them with true conviction that others won't join.

I think we're all saying the same thing really - as with most transfers for a top player, for us, it sort of depends on whether the bigger fish come in to the equation

Maybe he prefers us to a busload of cash. End of the day that will be decisive for him.

Exactly this.

And if the one of the elite clubs come in and he opts for them it's no ones fault, just unfortunate.

Fingers crossed.

But I would say, if we detect its a possibility, we'd be better to move pretty swiftly on this.

Just hope the player himself doesn't want to sit tight in the hope of other Clubs coming in for him.

More likely Aulas hanging it out as long as he can.
