this is the point where we need to do what Liverpool did with VVD and Allison - manager identifies a player they really want. club spends whatever it takes to get them for said manager.

this is not the time to mess around and end with the lesser targets.

if he is what Poch wants (same goes for Lo Celso and Sess), then their value to us could be immeasurable, just like VVD to Liverpool.

We've seen this all before from the newspapers/journalists.

Info gets leaked about a big bid from us for N'Dombele, so articles get written based on this info.

The inside channels that provided this first little juicy bad boy have now closed their doors, but the papers still need to write articles so what's the easiest thing to say next? That we are low balling for N'Dombele. This is 100% fabrication, but it will sell newspapers and garner clicks online. Same thing has happened with Lo Celso.

We cannot say for certain which information is real and which is fabricated, and this is why I tend to ignore newspapers and journos unless we have ITK along similar lines to the articles being written.

Just my 2c ofcourse.

Is it? When was the last big money top transfer target we signed? It's entirely plausible that we are miles apart in valuations, let's get real here, Levy has previous for this, it isn't like we haven't been here before a million times.

We always go into a new window hoping it is different and it never is.

£66m in this market for a midfielder of his quality and age is actually cheap. Chelsea paid £70m for Kepa ffs.

Just pay it and get it done.

I should've mentioned this, but what I said in that paragraph was just for context. I didn't mean to say it is definitely fabrication, I was saying it is to help get my point across. I did go on to mention that either side of the story could be true or false.

Why is it that EVERY SINGLE player that we “just miss out on” is because we offer these ridiculous low first offers expecting a discount on top players? Lyon want €75m so why isn’t our first offer €65m? It’s almost like we insult them by our low first offers and they become more determined to get the absolute last penny from us in each deal as a result of it.

?

Have I missed something?
Come on you tease
Not sure how I ended up posting that, I’d typed out a retort to the idea that Levy has never paid for quality, the ffs Dele was meant for my WhatsApp group of spurs fans who hate Thomas Cook as a flippant response to some new info. Nothing to do with N’Dombele or this thread.

Apologies for the confusion.

I'd say that actually is quite believable.

It's only 6/7m more than we paid for Sanchez. Ndombele is much more proven and established.

I'd be surprised personally. It could well be an opening offer though. Either way, the longer we mess around, the more chance of someone else coming along

It has nothing to do with the amount...you could say the same thing about a player that a club values at €25m and we offer €10m to start with. It’s not the fee, it’s the low offer based on their price that gets me

Have a look at Hercules post in the itk thread. Probably explains what’s going on on this one.

Sounds like Aulas is doing his very best to really ramp up the fee, get other parties involved so that he doesn't have to accept our offer.
Just hope Ndombele doesn't believe we are messing him around.
