It is interesting when you think two of the most talented players in the French League, Ndombélé and Pepe, are really struggling to make an impact in the EPL
Ndombele has made an impact and his quality is on full display. Pepe is a £75m Clinton N’Jie

He has been disappointing in his appearances post his last injury but worth noting that Bournemouth only really came into the game on the weekend after he went off then tonight we only really came into the game once he came on. That doesn’t mean he’s playing anywhere near his potential though. His style of play is just so valuable to us. When he doesn’t play it seems like Kane drops back a lot deeper and almost plays as a midfielder because he knows he’s not going to get much service from the others.

He’s not exhausted he just has a languid style he looks the same even when he’s walking pre match.

probably our most positive player tonight
This. His strides are too big, giving the impression he's always catching for breath. He needs to be trained with more agility movements.

He looks like a geriatric when he slow jogs. Looks 50 years younger running with the ball. Strange dude :)

It will take time. He's shown glimpses of what he can do but this is a new team, a new country, a new league, a different language etc. We've seen in the past that it does indeed take time. Son had 40 apps in his first season and scored 8 goals. The following season he scored 21 goals in 47 apps. We fans tend to forget that some of our best players right now also had a rather longish period before they hit their stride.

That said. Ndombele has to play at all costs as I see it.

It's time to throw both Ndombele and Lo Celso straight into the deep end of our midfield sink or swim.

Levy thought he could get away on the cheap imo not backing Pochettinho, by getting Mourinho to deal with this squad. After watching that shambolic display against ManUtd that cheque book has to used and quickly...Alderweireld Vertonghen Rose Wanyama Eriksen Aurier all need to shown the door imo all going through the motions. Sissoko has to be used sparingly though I advocate him playing in the big games until we address that midfield.

If Mourinho doesn't see Sessegnon as a left back then Vertonghen should stay but only as a left back. To many of our player believe their better but the reality unfortunately is what we're seeing....not good enough

Even though I agree he needs to improve his fitness and dedicate himself more to become fitter, we are still a much better side with him in it.

As soon as he went off against Bournemouth we had nothing in midfield and nearly gave the game away. Last night, as soon as he came on we improved and had some control in midfield. It's no coincidence and that's with him being 'out of shape'.

The problem I see at the moment is that Ndombele clearly isn't up to speed yet. He never looks like he's able to complete 90 mins. Therefore, at present, his best position would be in a 4-3-3, with a DM behind him doing most of the donkey work and another CM alongisde him covering ground.

The problem is Jose can't play a 4-3-3 as he knows Dele can only play as a number 10, which means unless we go with 3 at the back, we won't see Dele in a 10 and Ndombele in a 3 man midfield.

Alas, we will continue to see Ndombele somewhat struggling in a CM two with either a wooden Dier or a headless chicken Winks.

I think 4-3-3 would just be better for our overall balance for the team

McTominay dominated the game until he came on. Speaks volumes both over his influence and how poor our midfield is that it can't compete with McTominay.

I was laughed at when I said McTominay is a better player than Winks. I know it would wind people up on here but many a truth said in jest.

For me one player impacts games positively and influences the midfield and gains a grip on it, offers a goal threat and helps defensively, and the other is Winks.

Where do you play Dele?

Playing him deep in the midfield 3 negates some of his best qualities and when he's one of the attacking 3 he doesn't have the pace to defend and attack out wide.

As long as your criticisms of Winks is so OTT people will dismiss your views.

I'm OTT for saying he's an average squad player who shouldn't be in our first 11? For saying I can count his class performances on one hand?!
I might be confusing you with a different poster. There is one poster who seems to bring up Winks in almost every thread. So maybe it is the constancy rather than the actual view being OTT.

You wouldn't but I realise that's a problem in itself as he's a big game player and on form.
