A quick google suggests Dier has pace plus I've seen him run. I doubt he scores highly on manoeuvrability but how many CB do?

Theres a massive difference between explosive pace and top speed. He maybe quick over 50-60 yards but over the 10 yards that actually matter in football he's extremely slow.

He’s gotten embarrassed more than that. He’s lost a step or 2.

can you highlight specific games as I strongly disagree with this and every time I log onto SC see you endlessly repeating this point - in pretty much every thread I’m in

Haha opened this thread on page 1. Wow some of the comments ??

if Jose wants to keep him I hope we can do the deal. He seems to be loving being able to use his passing again and is still a top quality player.

Diers reaction time and fact he has the turning circle and speed of the titanic are his problems, don't think he will be ever good enough for top 4 team. If we go looking for defensive midfielder any time soon he will know the writing is on the wall

At this point, the next contract he gets should be in MLS or China. 2 years younger than Jan but his regression the last 6-9 months has been staggering. Increasingly hard to imagine him still playing in Europe in 2 years

There not all negative. Only for players who simply arent cutting it. If SC would take over those rose tinted glasses and look past his long balls, Toby’s defense has regressed massively. I really hope he isnt offered a new contract. Would have terrible optics with the Poch thing and would also be a poor footballing decision. We have to move on.

I personally think we should keep only one of the Belgian centre backs and either sign a top player to go on the left of Sanchez or push Foyth and sign a younger understudy, all depending on how ready Foyth is.

Taking a short term pain long term gain approach, I’d full support a Foyth/ Sanchez axis from as soon as possible, integrate whoever is our best young CB if one is good enough (if not, buy a youth), and keep Vertonghen (yes he’s older but I think he’s better, I think he’d be more content with being a rotation option and he’s more versatile).

Between them, Sanchez and Foyth both have pace, Sanchez is strong and an aerial presence, Foyth is clearly a more cultured footballer, they could be our new Ledley and Daws in the dynamic they bring. This will only happen if they play though, and the longer Toby is in the side, the more chance there is of missing out on a potentially superb pairing.

We have no decent defensive midfielder. No real protection for the back four. Posters like yankspurs will never understand or appreciate this.

Controversially I would let both go and go hard to sign someone we believe can compete in this position with Foyth and Sanchez. Both are clearly on a decline and our defence clearly needs a reset

I do know that but a DM wouldnt stop our defense from leaking so many goals. They are aging and slowing down. No shame in admitting that. CM is a massive problem. But so is our defense.
