He says less and less over longer and longer sentences, acting slightly grumpy left, right and centre. But at least he said "I think we are going to try to play the game and try to win". That's very good news to me, they will try to play AND try to win. I also liked very much that he said "At the moment it's difficult to see (any improvements)".

His pressers are frankly a complete waste of time now.

He doesn't want to do them or answer anything, he seems to massively resent being asked perfectly reasonable standard questions, and when he does answer we get Tolstoy-length diatribes and gibberish where he never answers the question anyway.

It's just what he's become these days. Won't know what he really thinks until his next book comes out.

Looks like Pulis sat there in his hat.

I do agree somewhat. I find it strange that he just looks fed up with the press even though to be fair they have been quite decent with him and the majority appear to like him and say good things.

He looks more frustrated than anything really

Ps id say looks like a golfer

just act like a professional and politely refuse to answer!
don't talk in tongues
Precisely the expression i would use in reference to a rumour mongring jockey who is extraordinarily well balanced whilst being quite stupendous at the dribble.

Something I picked up on around 16.30/17.00 he says we didn’t have great conditions in preseason and we won’t see the best of the team until a few months in. He must mean he didn’t have enough time on the training ground with all the players. Eg. Lo celso and sessegnon joining late and there being a few injuries. Quite a telling comment from him there.

Or that we were traveling all over Asia and Europe playing matches and were not able to actually train to get the team playing as a unit.

Probably bored with generic questions. Same reason I can't usually listen to players being interviewed. Same old boring questions and identikit answers.

This is from the horse's mouth, then. To save and then paste in next summer, when we get the usual suspects insisting that Pochettino demands that Levy blast a pile of money on established world-class players or he'll leave.

He doesn't. This is what he wants.

"The circumstances of the club meant that for a while maybe we could not regenerate," he explains. "For different reasons, we decided to keep our players. Of course, every season they are one year older, one year older. But now it is the start of the regeneration with the signings of Sessegnon, Lo Celso and Ndombele as well as bringing through our own players.
"They are the two systems that we use to refresh the squad, sometimes young players from outside and sometimes from the academy. When you have an unbelievable academy like we do, you can always refresh it in training and refresh with the energy and the motivation of players such as Troy Parrott. We are trying to regenerate that energy and to start again."
...
"I still prefer to work with younger players," he says. "I love it. We have the platform for them to be successful here and we are brave enough to give them the responsibility to show their quality. I love working with all players and we do have the capacity to work with experienced players too but we have the massive capacity to develop younger players."

I really don’t see the issue with his presser, didn’t look grumpy or upset to me at all, just fielding the same answers to the same tired old questions.

Too many people trying to build mountains out of molehills.

Nevertheless, it's his job to answer those questions. Every other manager in world football gets asked the same old stuff every day - it's the nature of the job. Poch gets paid more than enough to stop with the cryptic nonsense and be a bit more accommodating to the press. Being bored is not an excuse.

He hit the nadir when he came out with that "I don't know anything I'm not a manager" nonsense. Absolutely embarrassed himself with that immature stuff.

The best managers cultivate good relationships with the best journalists. As far as we know the only journo Poch is close to is Ballbag.

We'll see how he gets on over the season. Quite frankly, as long as we win matches and progress in competitions I'm not that bothered.

I don't mind at all if he cultivates a major case of hostility to the whole journo-cadre. Someone needs to say "stop asking me malicious bullshit questions, because I won't answer them" and "if you ask me about transfers again, I will leave the room". It may as well be Pochettino. He's got a lot of natural charm and he's more likely to get away with for longer than his more dour counterparts.

I really have no problem whatsoever if he alienates every cliché-spouting, shit-stirring football journalist in the British press. He should stage a couple of walk-outs at appropriate times. Or just sit there, silently, for a few seconds and then just say "has anyone got an intelligent question?"

He won't, because he's too polite, but we can all see him progressively losing patience, his responses getting shorter-tempered and less communicative.

Chronically paranoid Spurs fans see everything except what's there, which is contempt for his interlocutors.

Yes David , but what I think people are saying is that all he needs to is politely say ,' I won't answer on rumours , next question please ' No big walk out drama . His meandering irrelevant answers are boring and unnecessary , they make the process painful to watch .
He should learn to just swat questions aside with a smile . The Press would quickly learn not to ask re rumours etc imo

The irony of you purporting the idea of walking out of press conferences and being ridiculously unprofessional and rude to journalists, who are only trying to do their jobs, and then accusing other fans of being "chronically paranoid". Incredible stuff.

Once again, it's irrelevant how inane or malicious you think the questions are - it's his job to answer them as he sees fit - and if he decides to do so in the manner he has been displaying lately, then he will be judged on that. He's there to represent the club. There isn't a manager in the world who tries to pull the same "You know me I cannot answer this" job as Poch does for every single question.

As an example, during recent press conferences and the pre-season tour, he saw fit to be rude to and refuse to answer questions from Spurs Community's very own Ally Gold - a club-sanctioned journo for a local publication, who is well-respected, highly professional and never asks a question for the sake of it or to try and generate a headline. Poch refused to answer questions from him ranging from transfers, to player selection, even to basic tactics. He even answered the question of "Do you think Lamela will be an important player at the start of the season given his strong performances in pre-season" with a completely childish snap back at Alasdair.

I know you'll simply hit the Disagree or Dislike button and refuse to concede anything because that's what you do, but no, David, it is not "about time" someone acted so unprofessionally and downright rudely to journalists, especially not to ones sent there by the club!

Poch is a South American with a South American temperament.

He'll be moody sometimes; it's no big deal.

I think this is the crux of it. He’s an emotional guy. I’ve said before I think he needs more help from the media guy sat next to him. He needs to interject and keep a reign on the journalists. It’s obvious now Poch can’t do it.

What is coming is, probably after a couple of bad results, the journos seizing on his bad mood, winding him up and kick off a series of tempestuous press conferences and undermining him and causing us problems. We’ve seen it with Mourinho at Chelsea and Man Utd, Van Gaal at Man Utd, Wenger at arsenal etc etc etc
