I know there were other threads, flicked through and couldn't find one (probably because i'm lazy). But thoughts?

My take in a nutshell is: The NFL do game pass and still sell their product to traditional channels, why shouldn't the PL which is a much bigger global brand be able to do the same?

We're a long way off Premflix being launched globally with the Nordic rights now having been sold until 2028 in which I assume a clause preventing Premflix from launching in those countries exists in the contract (may be wrong about that), but the PL organisation and the new cheif exec have floated trying it out in a market like Singapore.

There's one major issue with Premflix that I see, which is that it discourages traditional media from making stories about the league in the news. Would Sky Sports News bother with wall-to-wall PL coverage if they no longer had a stake in the profit machine? Probably not and certainly not to the degree they cover it today.

That story would repeat around the world and it would lead to less focus on the PL in the long run, fewer casual followers being fed PL news and, unless it's such a mega hit that "everyone" ends up subscribing which is a very long shot, it will lead to the PL being less in the public eye and eventually you will see a drop in interest in the product. We'll see if it's a risk the PL is willing to take in the long run, but it's the main reason I think a NFL-like hybrid is more likely than a straight-up exclusive Premflix.

Would just end up going the same way as tv content being split across Netflix, Prime, Disney+, HBO Max, etc... Rather than a single subscription for Sky Sports we’ll end up with multiple subs for football, golf, F1, cricket, etc...

This will mean less / no money going to the minor sports and a lower level of production across the board.

A lot of people dislike Sky but you can’t fault their production quality and money they pump into sports outside football.
