The problem is we have all been happily carrying on for years trusting hawkeye for every decision around the goalline. Even when it comes down to a mm we believe it. But if its shown that it can sometimes not work that changes everything.

Nah it doesn’t. There’s a difference between the tech not sensing the position of the ball correctly, and someone forgetting to switch it on before the game. It’s the one piece of tech which has always been proven to work.

It’s not the technology itself that’s ever been the problem though. It’s always how it‘s administered by humans, and how human errors are dealt with.

Football’s never been good at acknowledging and correcting its errors, and technology can’t really help with that.

Hawkeye released a statement. They said the position of the players and the goal post occluded enough of the cameras to prevent the system from working. The first time it's happened in 9000 matches they said.

Bollocks. They didn’t turn it on.

True, but VAR did, for example, prevent us losing to City in the CL QF, which would’ve been just another on the long list of times we’d been absolutely screwed over by officials had the goal not been correctly disallowed.

Of course the flip side then occurred in the final where humans used technology (simple replays) to award history’s dodgiest penalty against us because we all know who had to win that match.

What’s more amazing is that it didn’t happen to us!

All well and good but a bit ridiculous on their part when the TV camera can show daylight between ball and post.

p.s not a dig at you I appreciate you’re just passing it on!

Never realised how much I rely on the names on shirts for some teams!

Finally a bit of commentary everyone can agree with no matter what team they support:

Tyler: “Where IS Jamie Carragher?”

Neville: “Who cares?”

indeed gents, indeed.

Really does feel like one of those pre-season games they have in Asia where there's often torrential rain.

KDB already looks the best player on the park. No way he stays there if they get a two year champions league ban. He’s too good.
