That looked clearly offside wtf

That's the weird bit. So many goals chalked off last season when you couldn't tell what VAR were looking at. this, at first glance, looked well offside because Auba's body was well ahead of the line.

Bizarre. Just hope they're consistent.

They've changed the rules this season.

Convenient, just like when they changed the rules after Chelski won CL season we finished 4th and got relegated to Europa. Lol.

It wasn’t offside. Ogbonna’s leg kept him on. Yes, in a normal, sane world, both that goal and Son’s at Leicester would be given, no questions asked.

But we’re not in a sane world, we in 2020 :cautious:

No they haven't.
Pure and simple, Son was offside by millimetres last season
Aubameyang was not offside by a few inches just then

His head was past the line - and that's a goal scoring "part of the body"? Wasn't that the rule last year?

I get confused to be honest - not the only one. But the weird thing is Son didn't look offside but was. Auba looked very offside but wasn't.

His head wasn't past the line, just camera angle. I agree first look I thought offside, but the trailing foot of defender clearly played him on.
If head is offside this season, it will still be given as offside this season

Whether something "looks" offside or not is very dependent on the angle the camera in question shoots from. The same Auba situation looks well off from a certain angle but would look well on from another. In this case the West Ham player's heel is trailing which means the offside line isn't in line with his body, but the end of his boot, and that certainly makes Aubameyang look more offside than he actually is.

The lines don't take the camera angle into account, they are programmed to be exactly in line with the goal lines.

While we might fundamentally disagree about the interpretation of some rules, you’re bang on with that mate, it’s not changed at all.

It makes me laugh when these idiots talk about 'having a bit of leeway' with offside.
Well how the fuck is that gonna work? If tou say 12" gap what happens when its 12 1/8"? One game give it, another game dont? Defeats the object of VAR.

Ill take your word for it because there weren't enough replays to be sure. :cautious:

But to be honest the quicker they get there the better with these things.

In effect the major rule change is the interpretation of handball.

Both that the hand now starts a lot lower (previously it was the seam over the shoulder, now it is lot lower down (basically the bottom of short sleeved shirt, watch some teams wearing some slightly longer sleeves no doubt)
Many more penalties though will be given for handball, and for what the Premier League have always classified as unintentional handball, if your arm is out and it hits it, the chances are it is a pen.
Also goalkeeper literally centimetre off line at penalty will be a retake now if he saves it.
Nothing else has changed, offside is either on, or not, nothing to do with clear and obvious

That Gabriel situation looked well dodgy, it was certainly on the line between the "green" and "red" handball area of the arm. Just shows you won't get away from controversy no matter what the rule is.

Felipe Anderson, Yarmalenko, Fornals any quality player that has been signed by WH must be thinking what the hell did I do?

Imagine hearing that you'll play PL football, an ambitious club, be paid rewardingly, big stadium and for a club in London......only to be getting changed for training in a cabin.

oooo nice goal.
