The only real scenario that fits where there is precedent, would be where teams fold during a season and their record is expunged (e.g. Aldershot in 1992 after they had played 36 games)
It that case all games they were involved in were deemed not to have happened, so individual appearances and goals would not count, similar also to any match that is abandoned.

However I still am of firm belief, and always have been that this season will finish, and in all likelihood being closed doors in sterilized conditions at training grounds, be that in June, July or even September (with transfer window and next season adjusted accordingly)
Yeah I'm just referring to the bit about contracts and sackings mate.

Yeah I don’t get how people can’t distinguish between results, stats and regulations of a sporting governing body and legal business transactions.

So the plan is maybe to play games behind closed doors. Just hope the virus has really subsided by then as you are not going to stop thousands of fans travelling to stand outside wherever the games are played with their tablets etc in hand watching the game on whichever channel is showing games and hoping that their chants can be heard by the players. Even if there is a travel ban some will defy it . The Man City Liverpool game still to be played do the authorities really want hundreds of football fans outside trying to follow the game , they will do what the PSG fans did just turn up.

Sterilised conditions does not exist when dealing with human beings. Right now the appetite I have for football is zero %. But admittedly that could change. I don’t give a toss about the alleged integrity of football. It is the integrity of capitalism, and sod the sport itself. Human beings make sport, along with the fans. So how on earth do you defend that? Another one of my very close friends (61 years old) has been diagnosed with acute Covid-19. The father of my son’s best friend, and someone I have known for 35 years is in hospital for it. And he is a fanatical yanited fan, who used to travel from London to Old Trafford for 70-80% their games. He has 75% chance of beating this. His name is Wellington.

so sorry if I don’t buy all this crap about playing the games. F all that ??

I understand you view point at the moment, please remember though that there will be some people for who football is their everything. For some, no family etc they may only have Footie that has been taken away (not saying that’s wrong by the way!)

as I said, when someone close to you becomes ‘involved’ of course you will feel strongly but there will be some that feel just as opposed as you feel agreed (if that makes sense!)

unbelievable! reading this just makes you think what planet are the people running the Premier League living on. If this plan is carried out it will make a pure mockery of finishing the league!

If they don't finish the season it will be financial armageddon for some clubs. They can't afford to pay the broadcasting rebate without going bust, or very close to it.

Then a lot of the players should follow the example of Barca, Juventus, Bayern and others in taking a pay reduction or holiday.

Just thought, does anyone think having the World Cup in winter 2022 may actually allow some wiggle room than usual in terms of shuffling the seasons around a little when trying to finish this one?

Maybe it's the couple of Wednesday beers talking but this seems like it's a watershed moment for football especially in England.
It's the richest league in the world yet clubs have no reserves to use when the unforseen happens.
Granted a worldwide pandemic is not something most businesses prepares for however most businesses do have reserves in place to get through a short period but doesn't appear the club's have despite each one having income over 100m and 7 clubs having income over 395m.
It has shown how poorly run the club's actually are and it's not just English clubs look at Barca whose players have had to take a 70% reduction because their financial position is so poor even before Covid.
The main income is from TV revenue and existing owners BT and Sky are also not in a healthy state financially due to the monies paid on the TV deals so this has a huge impact on th too.
People had been talking before this saying wages and the transfer fees could not continue and you had likes of Gary Neville talking about how difficult it is for clubs to buy just one top talent player now given the overall cost.

Just hope that if anything comes from all of this (in relation to football) it's that overall financial management improves and that wages /transfer fees reduce as Uli Hoeness tax cheat has claimed they will.

it will eventually have to get back on track though because not every world cup can be held in winter months

The Belgian league is now cancelled, and Brugge crowned champions. I guess I can live with Liverpool winning it in that way, as nobody would give a shit right now.

So are the bottom teams also relegated ?
Not from what I could gather, but I think the top two teams of the division below are promoted, so the league will increase from 16 to 18 teams next season. Second placed Gent will get the second CL spot.

That's the disaster outcome for us. If they do it on points per game right now we'll come 9th, below Arsenal and fail to even reach the Europa. I know some on here don't like it, but being in Europe is crucial to this club.

Not sure if it'll make too much difference as it's still an incomplete season, but they played 29 out of 30 games.

Prem has 9/10 games left and a lot more permutations so don't think it'll be as cut and dry.

There was only 1 game left to play in the Belgian league though. Much different situation than 9 games here

That's just the first stage of the Belgian league - it would have split after that with the top teams playing another 10 games.

And Brugges were 15 point clear.
Vastly different circumstances to the PL.
