Didn’t enjoy watching the bvb match earlier with no fans. It just reminds me of an England U17 match or woman’s football from a few years back where you can hear random people shout out shit. Couldn’t get into it. I’m sure I’ll enjoy it more when it’s us but each game will feel like a pre season friendly. Mind you, that might bring back memories of the epic Aldi cup win so it’s not all bad....

I didn't enjoy the Dortmund one either or the bit of the Bayern one I was watched but I saw some of the Frankfurt vs M'gladbach match and ended up quite enjoying it. Was competitive and end to end towards the end of the match.

If it's not very competitive then it does even more so feel like watching a friendly match or like you say some sort of youth match but if it's a good contest I think there's still entertainment to be found.

It was the original plan prior to lockdown before the government realised that it would overwhelm the NHS. It does make more sense to look at things on a local level now though. That's the way forward imo.

I don't even think local. I think we need to ensure the vulnerable are locked down and isolated as much as possible. Anyone with a notable pre-existing condition and those over 60 years old are the main (95%+) vulnerable groups.

One thing you will get with behind closed doors footy is that certain players will look like absolute ballers; the players that can do everything in training but once they get in front of a crowd their game shrinks, and other players that are raised by crowds looking ordinary.

I've known many such players that you watch in training and think "wow, where's this player in matches" but that player never materializes.

Could be interesting just to see if we have any of those.

We definitely have some that wilt under pressure so you'd think they will revel without that!

It will be interesting, but could you also argue that being observed is the concern rather than the crowd. You raise a good point, it's a different thing to motivate yourself when the observer is abstracted.

I was thinking that it will make the line between the elite and average players more extreme. This is based on the idea that nearly all players in the PL are incredible, what separates the very best is that fortitude, resilience and focus to be the best. Watching the Jordan Netflix doc someone like him had no problems finding his edge crowd or no crowd. On a tangent, if you'll humor me, his attitude all points to that nasty edge that Jose has. Pep definitely has that edge, just that bully a player into motivation.

Yeah, my father in law has got high blood pressure and diabetes and is in his 80s and has said that he won't come out until a vaccine is found. That's sensible but also worrying because it could be a long time.
