NBA are 3/4 through season, new season doesn’t start till October. Big talk now season will be cancelled. Would be a big precedent from a major sports league.

It was acknowledged that the Premier League will not resume at the beginning of May – and that the 2019/20 season will only return when it is safe and appropriate to do so. The restart date is under constant review with all stakeholders, as the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic develops and we work together through this very challenging time.

....

Discussions also took place regarding financial relief for clubs in the short term and while there is no single solution, measures are to be put in place to immediately deal with the impact of falling cash flow. Critically, the League unanimously voted to advance funds of £125 million to the EFL and National League as it is aware of the severe difficulties clubs throughout the football pyramid are suffering at this time.
It’s an advance of competition money, tv rights and sponsorship I guess. Having it now rather than end of season.

There are many many well paid millionaires in many sports all over the world yet the media have chosen to highlight footballers as the villains why is that ? what about all the other sports rich worldwide and indeed business men and film stars and rock stars you could go on and on .
To pick out footballers is fair but it is unfair to not pick on the other wealthy people just my humble opinion .

It's because in football the obscenity of wealth is so accute, so blatant and we are all complicit.

Burnley chairmen has just said they will run out of money by August if no date is set for start of next season. They can’t just let this roll on indefinitely. If they set a realistic date for new season clubs can sell ST.

They’ll have to start selling players. Won’t run out of money then if they do that. They won’t be the only ones in this position either.

No one will be wanting to buy as would then run out of money also....

It's the harsh reality that needed told IMO, and justifies the actions levy has taken. Just glad it was by another club!

That's what they would do if it was solely them in bother, but when everyone else is too then no-one's going to buy. Maybe some super clubs could - though even a lot of those aren't going to be looking to splash the cash - but would though clubs be looking at buying a lot of their players anyway ... It really is a problem which could escalate quickly.

Broadcasters aren't going to run every club out of business are they? They need football to make money in the future.

Same principle across all industries. Companies aren't going to completely knobble their main source of revenue.

Selling players to who though?

Another club in financial difficulty who might want to sell their players off on the cheap, you say!?!?

This paragraph from the PFA statement hits the nail on the head and shows why hancocks comments were naive

The proposed 30% salary deduction over a 12-month period equates to over £500m in wage reductions and a loss in tax contributions of over £200m to the government. What effect does this loss of earning to the government mean for the NHS? Was this considered in the Premier League proposal and did the Health Secretary, Matt Hancock factor this in when asking players to take a salary cut?

I wonder if the government ministers are taking wage cuts

?

The only thing that's keeping me going during this wretched period is the prospect of Liverpool winning nothing.

As my wife will glady tell you, I'm a pretty, bitter, little man.
My mrs would say the same about me apart from the pretty and little bit. Ugly and fat more like.
