Its just annoying how we couldn't get 4 more points to be 5th right now. With city banned and league voided it would have been perfect

Especially as it would only have taken wins at home to Wolves and away to Burnley before the league was called off.

It probably is the only fair way of deciding if the Premier League decide to void the season.

We don't deserve to be in the Champions League next season - I don't want our place just handed back to us.

Will make us no different to that lot down the road.

Agreed we don’t deserve it but we’re only 4 points off 5th- which could end up being good enough if City’s ban is upheld. With Kane and Son back I’d fancy our chances.

However with everything going I shouldn’t be worrying about this and there might not be any European competitions next season anyway, whenever it starts.

Horse racing will be back on mid May, I've had that confirmed by a few contacts I have in the racing world. It will be held behind closed doors, so if other sporting events are going ahead then it's likely that the PL could also be back behind closed doors.

Be shocked if true considering:

1. you need an ambulance at every race meeting.
2. You have horses travelling from all over the country to one place, then that jockey travelling to another city the next day.

Tbh although it’s not a contact sport the amount of interaction and travelling makes it worse than football imo. Saying that with gambling involved wouldn’t surprise me if the government bend the rules for them.

1- I think such cuts are temporary
2- I am sure the club would not allow such a thing to occur
3- we probably won't be buying anyone

Deferrals are the only way forward I think. Maybe a lump sum can be paid out at a future date or if the player was to leave the club or sign a new contract?

Massively surprised me as well but info is from some top stables and around 5 of them have all said the same thing. Date given was mid May so we will know soon enough if the info I was given is true. I love racing but think it would be a terrible decision to start it again so soon. Like you said, it's a gamblers game so maybe that would unfortunately swing it. A lot of the trainers are applying pressure as without racing, a lot of them could go under.

I just find it so insensitive, unethical and downright morally wrong to even give traction to the idea of playing top level football behind closed doors given the resource and logistical planning required - those efforts which would be so much better utilised to... hmm I don’t know?... perhaps join in a concerted effort in fighting this virus?

The greed knows no bounds.

Are the football authorities aware that hotels have hundreds of employees as well as suppliers? Or do they think they can be quarantined/isolated too? Sounds ridiculous.

But people are still working in hotels and shops. This would just be extending those conditions to non-essential things. And you'd imagine that the premier league would be able to supply sufficient masks, handwash etc. A lot of which is still lacking in places doing essential work.

That’s the point isn’t it. Football is non essential. We’re all trying to minimise risk. Adding a football squad plus support staff to a hotel with the existing staff and suppliers going in and out is irresponsible IMO. Not to mention you’re asking the football people to stay away from their families during a difficult time. It just doesn’t seem right.

Not to mention that you need an estimated 250 staff in the ground just to stage a football match behind closed doors, excluding players and playing staff.

The only way out of this is a vaccine. So I fully expect the government to fully approve one in the next few months. They have to. It doesn't matter how effective it is as long as it doesn't kill too many.
The government can then release the lock down on scientific grounds and any resurgence in the death rate is down to those 'morons' who are refusing to get 'vaccinated'.

It is basically back to plan A - herd immunity but with a window for the government to have sorted out PPE for heath/care workers, and to have got a testing and tracking system up and running. They've have had long enough really.

But still would they let football games be played? It is thought players transmit viruses to each other pretty easily but the league need to do more research. I'd like to know which the critical activities are:
using shared gym equipment
coach/planes journeys
waiting in dingy corridors
changing in cramped dressing rooms
sharing baths (does that still happen?)
playing the actual game
celebrating goals/wins during and after the game
media work/shaking hands

If players have to wear surgical masks, and cut out the celebrations, it might be playing the game out in the open air, under uv light is not very risky at all. Each of the other activities can surely be made safer.
The league have to show some competence.

Same for opening up the stadiums again. We know these events spread corona. But break it up:
journey to and from the ground mostly on crowded public transport
queuing up to gain entry
mingling in dense crowds indoors
queuing for food and drink
queuing for toilets
actually watching the game
queuing to get out

As long as the fans have surgical masks, then outside in the open air, watching the game may well be pretty safe.
If the food/drink concessions were closed and the arrival/departure time of each block was heavily controlled, social distancing could be largely maintained for a part empty stadium.
The main problem is public transport, but if Boris has unlocked that and everyone is packed in every day of the week anyway, then that does not seem good grounds to lock down games.
And of course we'd all be 'vaccinated'.
