I think Lo Celso is going to be pivotal to our success this season.

He plays the majority of the league games and we'll be finishing top 3 imo.

i wonder/hope jose sees it this way too.(75% of league games?)

Some of this top 6 drivel is bullshit. The team started out last year playing like shit/hungover, contracts enabled important players to play uninspired, and injuries crucified the squad. Oh yeah, the manager changed for the first time in years. Seriosly, what else could have gone wrong last year?

The squad was in the Champions League Final around 12 plus months ago. My vote was as obnoxiously optimistic as this top 6 drivel. With Kane, Bale, Son, and Dele playing, this squad can crush anyone they play. As of now, limiting this teams performance is entirely in their control and problems are self-inflicted. They can choose to win and I choose to vote based on that potential. Optimistic as it is.

Now that we have made additions that I know will improve us, and the fact I am sure we will get another striker (we better!), I am now confident we can finish top 4. We were 14th when Jose took over, and even getting us to play unimpressively we achieved 8 spot before lock down and then finished in 6 spot at the end of the season. So based on this and Jose now having a whole season to bend the players in his way of playing, I am sure we will get the required points despite how we play.

No coincidence we were poor against Everton and first half against Southampton without Lo Celso.

Let's see how we do against Newcastle with him starting.

Then people will be more optimistic I reckon.

And then we hope he's able to play every minute of every game from then?

These paper comparisons are totally pointless, because football isn't Top Trumps, and it's so easy to fall into the typical fan mode of simultaneously overplaying opposition weaknesses and underplaying our own. If we're going to assess our prospects on what we think we're capable of if everything clicks, then we have to do the same for the rest. And if we're going to focus on the flaws they have, then we really need to be doing the same for the all-too-glaring ones on display in almost every single one of our games. Having Bale, Son and Kane in a front-line (assuming Mourinho is even planning to do such a thing) is pretty useless without a midfield that can constantly get them the ball in areas they can be effective. Or if we're going to continue making woeful errors leading to the concession of avoidable goals. Let's see those addressed for a reasonable amount of time before we start talking ourselves up against teams that are currently better than we are.

have to get a striker in. we suffered greatly for it last season.
For me a centre back is even more imperative now. We have got Bale now and so many other attacking options but if Alderweireld's legs have gone, we are going nowhere with Sanchez and Dier.

Everton are looking very well organised already. Ancelotti is really showing his pedigree there. It’s early days for them, and they have a fairly shallow squad. I expect them to be a rival to our ambitions this year.

Everton got extremely lucky yesterday with that pen. Also annoying that man u got a thoroughly undeserved victory.

Everton are going to be like Wolves this year. And James seems settled already. Yes they got lucky with the penalty yesterday, but still put it in and won the game nonetheless.

The key in these early weeks is just winning while squads settle, Everton have that. Which is why I just want to win at the moment while Bale and Reguilon work their way into it.

If Brighton and Utd were in opposite kits the decisions would’ve been opposite too, Connolly would’ve always had that penalty in a Utd shirt and Brighton would’ve never received the penalty after the match ended, in fact the final whistle would’ve been blown the moment kick off was taken after a last minute equaliser.

As for Everton v Palace, Everton getting that penalty was disgusting, if that is really an accurate interpretation of the rules then the rules are ridiculous.

The wording of the rule is terrible. But I think yesterday was down to the incompetent referees.

The standard of referees is absolutely abysmal.

First time I’ve had belief that we will challenge for top 4 this season. Forget the nonsense penalty. We’re looking good

Didn’t see the first half, but encouraging that we reportedly played with some tempo and coherence.

Still, we had a powder puff start to the season and only have 4 points. Couple of bad results with tougher games and we could be way off the pace.

Wondering if this and the Everton game we’ll be looking back at points dropped if we don’t get top 4. Absolute gutter but the team looked more cohesive and an inform, fit Tanguy will hopefully give more fluency in the final 3rd
