This. We're 6 points off, which with the amount of games to come is definitely doable.

But we just look so sh*t. We struggled to a home win against the worst side in the league...but we did get 3 points.

Pick things up, and we can get there. But I worry (especially with Harry out) what the catalyst could be the turn the required corner
Hard to judge v Norwich, as they have beaten Man City and drawn with Leicester and Arsenal and Chelsea also only just scrapped a win.

I was quite bullish on top4 chances a month back. Then Sissoko & Kane got injured. We are 6 points away. I am not bullish anymore but still positive we will finish top4 provided we get a capable no9 (who can hold & linkup play at the minimum).

For us to be in top4,
A) Ndombele & LoCelso have to start together & get a partnership going alongside
a DM.
B) Settle down the back 4 : Davies once fit & Tanganga have to be part of the back4. IMO back4 of Aurier,Toby,Tanganga,Davies would have the solidity even though it’s but harsh in Sanchez
3) Sign the striker & get us going

Can't see us getting top 4 this season. We've got 4 points down to Newcastle in 14th place and as things stand, we're more likely to drop down there than to gain 6 points on Chelsea.

The worst part is that this weekend is the last weekend for hunting in Sweden, so from now on I'll actually have to start caring... oh, the heartbreak!

Chelsea have Leicester, utd and us as the next 3. Tough run so we need to pick up points in hope they drop some.

Top 4 is there to be had. Wolves need to be taken seriously.

We got city, villa and Chelsea so gap will probably be unchanged.

Top 4 is such a tease....nominally we're only a couple of wins away again and Chelsea are far from convincing. I've said previously that 72 points is the average pts required for 4th but as has been pointed out that threshold is going to be much lower (maybe 65 pts) this season.

This will still require us to go on a couple of good streaks where we win 3 or 4 in 5 games fairly consistently and I just don't have any confidence that we'll do that.

This reminds me of our default position in the 90's/early 00's where we'd always be a couple of wins off the last UEFA Cup spot but never quite capable of catching up.

I said in another thread that the side this season reminds me of an early 90s Spurs side - lots of talented attackers, even some good defenders, but no balance in midfield, and no physical players bossing midfield and protecting the defence.

Not far off....our better players are slightly better than their 90 counterparts and our worst players aren't as bad as our worst players were then.

That we've become such a soft touch again is the biggest regression.

My biggest frustration was that Terry Venables never bought a dominant defensive midfielder to play alongside Gazza and Lineker. Or decent fullbacks.

We are struggling to beat lower table shit and haven't beaten anyone in the top 4/5 this season, so I would say that top four is a tough ask and very unlikely to happen.

Wolves aside, we’ve not beaten anyone decent in the league this season.

Kind of a homeless, bankrupt man’s Carrick.
Ha ha yeah I do remember him getting stick back in the day. TBH I never really thought of players in those kind of positions back in the day - they were just midfielders to me - either goalscoring or not.

Yeah they play nice football, but they've got the same points as us and we're awful and in transition which says it all. Lloris is back, Davies back soon, lo celso improving every game, Aurier much improved, and tanganga like a new signing. If we can get ndombele match fit, sign a striker and a DM in this window we will have every chance of top 4.

Wolves have been bang on form for most of the season, plus they were on 9 competitive games by the time Wembley played our 3rd due to their long qualifying spell in the Europa before the season started.

We are yet to see the best of Ndombele, Lo Celso is just kicking in and we have Gedson we can utilise where as we didn't have him at the start of the season. For me the key to us muscling in to that desired 4th spot sits with goals we can score. If we have to rely on Lamela. Lucas, Son, Dele & Parrott for the rest of the season we have no chance. If we add a striker who just fits when we need him and he comes in well, along with Lo Celso kicking on, Ndombele realising what he can do in this league then we can see a run really change things.

We are outsiders for it but unless the top 4 stays exactly the same for the rest of the campaign and those four teams don't shift, we do currently sit on the next amount of pointhis next in the following pack. Buck up our ideas and Chelsea keep having home wobbles and we have a chance to we drastically need to find verve to our game for that to happen.

The problem we've got is the number of teams competing with us and the fact there's only now seemingly one spot up for grabs. Statistically therefore top 4 seems highly unlikely. I'd take us finishing in the Europa League. I know it divides opinion but it's a route to the CL for me.
Not to mention one of those trophy things that my great great grandfather tells me he remembers us winning when he was a nipper.

The stars would have to well and truly align for us to have a chance at 4th. The only convincing win we've had in months was the Burnley game and every other match has been a back-and-forth slog in which we've rarely looked particularly solid or coherent.

I think our only hope is that Ndombele gets into the side and Jose stumbles across some formation that can get the best from him and Lo Celso. We'd also need to sign a striker and for them to hit the ground running.

Davies coming back will hopefully give us a bit more balance and defensive solidity. Jose claims we haven't been able to play his desired way due to Davies' injury so maybe just maybe that will have a big impact.

You know you're clutching at straws when you're pinning your hopes on Ben Davies to save your season though...

I reckon we'll end up around 7th.
