What a match!

Talk about the Good, the Bad, the Ugly and the SEXY!!

Kane scoring two in August and his first (I believe) at our new stadium.

Credits also to Rose, Ndombele, Eriksen and Sissoko

But after all that I am going to give my MOTM to Walker-Peters who stood up and was counted.

(Sign the contract Eriksen, you know you want to!)

[EDIT] Just saw the replay and realised that Lamela mugged Grealish for one of Kane's goals! (y)

KP pub nuts for me .

Thought he was good the entire game, I suppose like he was in the opening game at Newcastle

Typical bloody spurs!

The diamond does not work, especially without a creative player!. Please stop it poch!

Ndombele was quality once he scored, quite poor and clearly nervous beforehand.

Eriksen changed the game.

We will need to be much better than that.

I really dont know how poch will fit both glc and eriksen into the team. We need both imo.

Eriksen MOTM, changed the game when he came on. KWP did really well, hopefully he can push on from here and get even better. Promising from N'dombele, grew into the game.

Eriksen changed the game. As did a switch to a 4-2-3-1. We could have been out there all day with the diamond and not scored .

KWP impressed me but just needs to improve his final product.

Winks was good and kept things ticking over

Second half

NDombele was superb when CE came on, he found more space and became a lot more effective, end product and affected the game much more.

CE was just magnificent - impactful and showed that his demeanour means fuck all. Kane also played well after CE came on.

Sisssoko was good when he got in the middle, never play out wide again please.

Poch - stop fucking about with the diamond shit. Play what we are good and great at.

i stand by what i said in the match thread,

Winks needs to show more balls, he slows the whole game down by incessantly making back and sidepasses.Hes afraid to make things happen and thats not good enough for a number 8 who is supposed to keep the midfield ticking.

First half its all about our Centrebacks making those long passes. Winks need to show more responsibility, drive.the ball foward, do link up plays instead of constantly signaling players to play back passes with that outstreched arms.

Todays moral of the story is "To Dare is to Do" You win games by taking chances passing foward instead of fucking around the defensive perimeter getting 95% pass completion. Dembelee is epitome of our clubs motto today, him and Lo Celso; they are going to make things happen this season

Lloris - Nothing to do. Not too much he could have done on the goal in all honesty.

KWP - 7.5 - Very solid and full of energy.
Toby - 7 - Good, maybe could have been more ambitious in the passing.
Sanchez - 5.5 - Had good moments but also a bit at fault on the goal and in a large chunk of Villa's offensive actions.
Rose - 6 - Always an outlet and had so many touches, but very suspect defensively at times today.

Winks - 7 - Solid, but this wasn't the game to go 3 CMs.
Sissoko - 5.5 - Better when he went out wide, feel like we're trying to carve out a role for him right now and haven't found it yet. We know he's capable of more, also a bit of a culprit of the formation today.
Ndombele - 7.5 - Beast. He's a cheat code.

Lamela - 5.5 - See Sissoko...less involvement but probably more important involvements. Like Sissoko, looked a bit lost first half.
Lucas - 4 - Didn't really offer anything, don't think that Poch really defined his role in the 2h, looked a bit lost and not involved at all.
Kane - 8 - Got the job done.

Eriksen - 7 - Changed the game, but I would say it was 1/3 him and 2/3 just switching the formation. Should probably be starting though.N
N'Koudou / Skipp - Not enough time, but deep down I kind of hope both get some regular playing time this year. I still think there is a player in GKN (good preseason too), and Skipp is exciting in regards to having another Winks-esque player come through.

Poch - 4 - Love the fella but the whole "completely set up incorrectly in the 1st half and have to fix it at HT" spiel is just going to cost us so many points this season. Don't get how it happens so often.

Feel a lot of the poor performances today from the players were more culprits of Poch's setup, as I mentioned.

Eriksen kinda defines playmaker - makes things work. I've no clue if he stays, leaves , signs or whatever but we are currently a lot better with him in the side.

Lloris 7, not much work for him, maybe he could react at villa's goal better, but not his fault
KWP 8, he was great I think, just give him a run of games and he will be better than Trippier was
Toby 7, nothing special bar few mandatory diagonal passes
Sanchez 6, not his best game, was bullied a lot
Rose 7, missplaced quite a few passes but also did some pretty decent stuff, plus gave 100%
Winks 7, looked to be most alive when on pitch, but same time didn't do any seriois stuff either bar 1 good tackle
NDombele 9, not fully fit and clicking yet, but he is pure class. Because of great goal I give him 9, otherwise 8
Sissoko 7, hardly found his job in this game, missed few chances, but finished game very strong
Moura 6, played meh for last 89 mins of the game
Lamela 8, his workrate and passion is underrated, his tackles enables us lots in attack
Kane 9, class finishing, great attitude, good old Harry
Eriksen 8, great vision today and good passes, he changed the game
N'Koudou/Skipp net
Poch 7, he will have to sort out CM+AM strategy soon, luckily he has tools so not worried
Grealish 6, oh wait...

NDombele's better in a midfield two.

Kane's better as a lone striker.

Eriksen needs to start even if he's leaving - changed the game.

The decision not to play Vertonghen was bizarre, and I think Sanchez got bullied a little in the first half.

Basically, start playing our 4231 with Eriksen behind Kane and all will be fine.

Not going to comment of the formation. Just read any ratings thread over the last eight months we've played the diamond for my thoughts.

Lloris 6 - Didn't have much to do. No dodgy kicking.

KWP 7 - Defended very well. Even though he's not the strongest he wasn't afraid to put himself about against a much more physical winger. Offensively he wasn't good.
Sanchez 5 - Some dodgy defending and use of the ball.
Alderweireld 7 - Good.
Rose 5 - Probably the opposite of KWP. Defensively was poor and gave away some stupid fouls outside their box. Put in a couple of good cross and passes into the channels.

Sissoko 6 - Usual Sissoko. Some good running, some comical technique and some bad decision making.
Winks 8 - Much like the other the two in midfield, was given too much to do, but he actually made a good fist of it in the first half. Better when he Ndombele beside him rather than being a single pivot.
NDombele 7 - Was underwhelming in the first half. Looked like he wasn't sure where he needed to be and forced things too much. Played much better in the second half when he played in a proper position.

Lamela 6 - Not good in the first half. Pretty good second. Still majorly frustrating.

Lucas 5 - Him and Kane don't seem to work at all. Movement below average and didn't look to have drive with the ball after the first five minutes.
Kane 7 - Useless first half. A bit better overall play and obviously got the two important goals. Was much better when he was up on his own.

That was some very weird tactics in first half. Diamond not working story #35346. Way much better with Eriksen in the middle. He set the pace and we finally played with more dynamic and speed. =goals

Another thing Poch buffles me with is the choice of substitutes. Skipp, Dier AND Wanyama?? What the fuck for? Especially with Dier, Wanyama (& Aurier) having 0 minutes of preseason under their belt.
Surely Parrott would have offered something different.

But well, it worked out in the end.

Credit to Eriksen, I give him MotM. Sissoko was pretty awful in my eyes, Winksy slowed it down too much and Ndombele obv needs time. Was very happy for him to score the goal.
KWP was fine all game, Lucas & Lamela got lost too much of the game, Kane was near his best. Stay fit dude.
