I think it`s time with consider some loan signings if we cannot buy all the players required to boost the squad. I know we are not keen on paying loan fees but bombing in the champions league and finishing outside the top 4 will really hurt the clubs momentum.

As far as Trippier getting caned for the goal, I've just had a first proper look at it (my stream was terrible earlier and I missed both goals live):

His positioning here isn't wrong is it ? How that ball finds it's way through to Wood is just a fucking fluke, it's meant for the player to his right in the centre I believe or he's trying to curl it to Wood but outside of Trippier.

I haven't seen the replay, and might very well be wrong, but I think that screengrab is halfway through what Trippier does - he's slammed the brakes on, turning himself front on and getting squared up and ball watching. That had happened three or four times already beforehand where balls had been played in behind him as he'd got himself in terrible positions, and is something he's really prone to doing - whether that be wider play like this, or one vs one defending.

It's absolutely Trippiers fault.

His positioning is awful and he never sees wood running in behind him. That should not happen in the last minute. Trippier is just completely clueless that Wood makes that run. But it's no surprise because his positioning was awful in the last ten minutes.

I'm just not getting it, here is the freeze frame from that link you posted as the ball is played. Where do you think Trippier should be ? Why is his positioning awful ? If you wind it back, you can see three Burnley players all run and then split, Trippier is kind of left with two, and he takes up a position which should, with everyone else around be fine, but the ball actually fortuitously arcs between him and Alderweireld and into Wood's run which clearly wasn't the intention.

I'm not saying Trippier is a great defender, he's not, I just don't see what is wrong with the position he takes here ?

Trippier had no idea that guy was running in behind him until the ball went by and he turned. never saw him.

@Bus-Conductor

Again, look at his body positions though. Originally he's in the same position as all the others, side on as they drop towards their own goal. Then look at the second screengrab, three of them side on still whilst Trippier is in the process of getting front on and slammed on the brakes. Maybe Arfield is his focus and he's half thinking of going towards him, but you've got to be aware of what's either side of you and he just isn't aware of where Wood is and gets in a bad body position where he can't react to the through ball.

The whole defensive shape in that screenshot is horrible considering it's the 90th minute and were clinging on. 3 against 4 and the high line. You'd think the scores were level and both teams had something to chase.

He's good here, same body position as Toby and Dier.

Then when Brady takes the touch inside he shapes up and starts back peddling. (I reckon he thought Wood pulled wide, instead of going directly at goal)

To be honest bigger issue for me is that, like last week, the team was split like forwards and defenders,

winks the furthest man forward.

The team is supposed to move together, whether in attack or defence and close gaps as a group. Not this disjointed mess. And with 2 minutes left it's just criminal. Absolute sickener brought on by ourselves.

And I think that is the bloody point. I don't care what a freeze frame says. I could see with my own eyes that he may have started in the right place, but he got caught ball watching and then let the player go cos he was flat footed. This wouldn't ha been such a massive annoyance if he hadn't already done it three or four times prior to the goal. How else to explain why they kept attacking that side? Because they knew our RB was deliberating between positional sense and staying with his player, being caught in two minds on a few occasions. It simply wasn't good enough. Even Poch was quick to point out that we suffered because of lapses in concentration. Of which he alone wasn't guilty. Many in the team over the last twenty minutes lost focus and purpose. It was utterly bizarre considering how much this team has played together in the same system for the last three years. It's inexcusable.

Winks def didn't need to charge forward. Just keep possession and run the clock down. No need to chase another goal with 1 minute left

Yep. Very silly and naive by Winks and the forward players who should have better match awareness than that. The problem is exacerbated at Wembley because the pitch is so much bigger than the Lane, meaning even more space between the two groups.

It was the same in the Chelsea game. We just completely lost our shape. IMO it's a fatigue problem. When pressing at Wembley it's going to take more out of the players, resulting in them being both physically and mentally tired in the late stages of the game.

Burnley only needed the last 20 mins to create more clear cut chances than us.

Heres a few things i feel need to change:
1)Players movement need to improve. The attack was so slow, and toothless, everyone was so static
2)Team needs to man up and keep composure when 1-0 up. Keep possesion of the ball, from 80% possesion in the first half, to 20% in the last 20 minutes is unacceptable.Tottenham supposedly has better players?? ive witnessed this countless time, this brainless hoofing needs to stop.
3)Delle Ali needs to wake the F up. Hes becoming more like Berbatov everyday. First half he was barely making an effort. 2nd half greatly improved. Stop late night partying, stop acting like a diva
4)Harry Kane needs to put the team first. How many times you need to take a 50 50 shot when someone else is in a better position?? Why????
5)Son= 0 shots...what happened??Deferimg to Ali and Kane. Start shooting.

What are the two things? Excuse me for having a Kyle Walker moment, but I don't get it.

The two things you suggested:

1) That he was always pushing KWP ahead of Trippier
2) That he just wanted Walker out and didn't care who replaced him

He's saying neither are strictly true but they both could be

Alli for a start. The team do a lot of work around him, and he pops up and scores and takes the glory, and that often betrays the utter bollocks he produces for big chunks of games. I do not believe that even a goal or an assist always justifies 85 minutes of sloppy, careless, disregard for the team. The boy needs to realise just producing a moment isn't enough at this level, he has to show a bit of intellect too. Him coughing up the ball for fuck all just puts everyone around him under pressure, most of all the FB's who we know are told to bomb on, his pressing is lethargic too at times, lets people off the hook.

I find much of your analysis good, but you let yourself down with personal vendettas. You really don't like Alli, do you? This was one of his better recent games, surely? The goal speaks for itself (who else is scoring these, if not Alli?), but there was much more that was good. He won a good number of free kicks (as usual) in dangerous areas. He was constantly looking to create some damage and make a progressive contribution. He got himself in good positions, and generally linked up play well. He simply did not 'cough up the ball' in this game. Hardly at all.

Alli isn't perfect, but he's one of the best in the league in his position, without a shadow of a doubt. You could make a case for him just based on goals and assists, but he generally adds an awful lot more than this. His link up play with Kane and Eriksen can be outstanding. Yes, occasionally, his decision making let's him down. He's 21 FFS.

Yep , not seen fatigue mentioned anywhere . It was my feeling too in our dreadful last 20 mins . So unusual to think about a Poch team being more tired than the opposition in the later stages that we can't even recognise it when its staring us in the face .

The team generally lacks pace and this has an adverse effect on our attacking and defensive play,

All teams hate playing against pace and are far more comfortable defending against nice tippy tappy teams that hold possession in front on them and rarely get behind them..

Hang on didn't Kane try to play a blind pass back to Winks which had too much on it when he was in a better position to take the ball into the corner.

Kane should have held it and took it into the corner.

Just before that Alli lost it twice around the centre circle and we got lucky on those breaks.

Game management was poor.
